Hey guys. Just found this forum. LOTS of good info. Thanks to John for setting it up.
I've been in and out of a few studios. Some small some large. I'm in the design process for a new one, single purpose that should be started on mid next year. This is what I have drawn up so far. Very preliminary, rough estimates, but the slab size is firm.
I want to make sure I use the space I have the as efficiently as possible. Namely, I want to create a large room, and mimic the accoustics of a much larger room for a very deep and warm environment in the main studio. The reason I'm posting is because all of my scetches seem to go back to this design, but I'm not 100% sold on it because the iso rooms are pretty much not within eyeshot of the control booth. I'm not sure if that is a big concern yet, but I like being able to see my artists. I wanted to post my design up on the internet so I could take some punches on it somewhat anonymously.. :)
So knowing what you know, are there any comments on usage of space? Layout? I don't think I have a bad design, but I'm always open to new ideas while I'm still in the planning phase.
Thanks for any comments!

slists,
Welcome to the forum.
1. Could you please update your profile and include location. This is a world wide resource, cost of materials differ from place to place, we need to know where you are located.
2. Related to #1, please (if you have not already) take the time to go through stickies, mainly:
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231
And
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2125
SO that you're up to speed with the rest of us, we grow tired of answering the same questions (not saying that you're going to ask a question already asked a gazillion times).
This stuff takes a few reads to understand... HEY I vote questions in the state of confusion should be allowed.
3. You're posting a design question in the construction forum. Studio design is the place for that, and John is the man.

4. All that being said and looking at your draft I think you are a ways of from utilizing your space effectively.
My 1st objection (of many if I would take more time) is the gear in the rear corner of CR. A corner like that should be a bass trap and facing the live room while working is much more typical.
Your CR is not symmetrical.
You are showing no acoustic treatments.
Also don't see the point of a stage, unless you're going to use it as a drum riser to reduce impact noise to floor.
Go through the design forum, hit every thread, you are bound to find a space with similar dimension as yours. This will take a while but completely worth it if interested in studio design.
Also going through the center fold of this web site is aw inspiring:

If you go:
http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html
Click on Studio plans, and look at THE CORNER CONTROL ROOM, it has the same number of rooms and similar over all space you have.
Also worth it to go through that entire site, written in 98 or 97 by John. Just remember when reading some of the methods are out dated, some are arguable and John has no control over the web site anymore.
Rod's Book in the Stickies is the 1st $30 you should spend on you studio.
I don't mean to scare you with any of this... keep coming back and posting. Especially with pics when you get to work, we love pics of 2x4 walls, demo concrete, piles of sheetrock coming of a delivery truck, etc...
