Hey guys, I have bought/recived all my 100mm 703 for my studio. I counted my ceiling hangers in this too. Is this too thick for the job? as i am now realising most folks use 25mm. I got my order put in with a big building order so the price is really good, so it's just the acoustic side I am worried about. Thanks, Joe
That shouldn't hurt anything - I'd follow John's advice here, with maybe one addition - since your 703 is thicker AND heavier than what most have used for hangers, if you're gluing these to backer board I'd ALSO wrap wire around the entire hanger after the 703 is glued on, and twist the wire snug enough to bite into the insulation about 10-15% or so - the insulation will damp the wire so no ringing will happen, and the wire will help the glue do its job of keeping the insulation where you put it. A possible further benefit might be that since this will "convolute" the insulation surface somewhat, you might get a tiny improvement in overall absorption due to a more "tortuous" sound path within the ceiling trap - but that last part is probably just me "over-thinking". I agree 110% with John's statement about full absorb in your ceiling - that's essentially a parabolic reflector, and without absorption it will focus everything right back at your head... Steve
Hey Steve, Thanks for the clear reply. It allways sounds easy when you know how  It,s good to know I dont have to go change the 703. I intend to follow Johns design advice for sure. I spoke with john and he advised me to divide the area above the ceiling into 3 areas, hangers left to right, front to back and left/right. As my deepest point is about 1.8m between false ceiling and roof I have one question.. How wide should my hangers be at this point? As i read somewhere else on the site the larger the hanger the harder it is to excite and therefore the less effective it becomes. Or do the smaller ones to the back overcome this. Cheers, Joe
With a variable dimensioned space like that, just make all the hangers as deep as space allows - width (side to side) should be at least half a meter, wider is fine too. Having a variety of depths/widths/weights will help to smooth out the absorption of the trap area so it's a good thing to do... Steve
Thats cool, Thanks Steve for the enlightenment  Joe
