Dear friends
First would like to say hello to everybody. In the past you´ve helped us a lot with our first studio design
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... highlight=
Time come to expand the facility, so Im thinking of rebuilding current control room.
It looks that there is a big demand for post-production in Namibia, so I´d like to have sort of multipurpose room.
Bevor I post some of my Sketchups , please help me with my first big problem:
Currently our monitors are Dynaudios 6bma. So my first thought was to buy additional speakers for a 5.1setup.
I love the idea of soffit mounted monitors, but , after researching on the forum, it looks like those arent the best for soffit mounting.
My second option, couple of JBLs 28p were also mentioned as not the best for the task.
So the soffit is a no-no in my case?. By the way, here in Africa cooling them would be probably very difficult.
So if I really want (should have) a soffit mounted speakers, I would go for the KRK V8 in the 5.1 setup. By the way, are they good for post-production? (unfortunately auditioning speakers in Namibia is impossible).
So here my problem:
Should I buy good speakers specially for the soffit mounting (KRKs) , or stick with BM6a´s or JBLs as freestanders. Or is the way to soffit the dynaudios?
Thank you in advance for your help

Ok
I was a bit too fast.
Sorry
After researching few more hours I´ve explained all may questions myself :)
I´ll post some sketchups to get the approval.
Thanks
Hi Wojtek - welcome back :D
cheers

Hi John!
How are you? :)
By the way, what would be your choice in this case?

Wojtek
As we said before the JBLs won't soffit because of the added low end in their design but the Dynaudio BM6As should. They offer a sub for additional low end if you need it. I'd reckon the 6a's would sound great soffit mounted, like the KRks, the soffit would add that extra bass instead of needing to add a sub.

Hi John. Thank You for your time. I think I won´t sleep again until I´ve solved this problem. Your statement drives my heart up ;). The only reason I want the sub is 5.1 array. So I need the sub anyway. What do you think about: Since Im negotiating with JBL ( I hope for a discount since it would be the first 5.1 JBL installation in Namibia) maybe I buy them and use as freestanders. For stereo mixing and cross-check I´ll soffit mount the dynaudios. By the way I´ve spoted some threads here about mixing and mastering gurus having problems with mounted speakers becouse of the end-users not having tthem soffit mounted anyway? Thanks WojtekAs we said before the JBLs won't soffit because of the added low end in their design but the Dynaudio BM6As should. They offer a sub for additional low end if you need it. actually - sorry - I didn't realise you said JBL LRS 28p's - I was thinking of another model
we've just soffit mounted JBL LRS 28p's in a 5:1. with the sub.
here's a pic - the top set of speakers are JBL LRS 28p's, they are covered in the pic as the painter was to finish the timber work.
They sound great in 5:1.

So My JBLs are almost on the way, soffit mounting.....hmmmm I love the idea.
last question, did You soffit mount the sub as well ???
And, in the case i soffit mount the 28ps, do I still need this -6db bass attenuator (I hope im right here, cant find the post now)or are they fine out of the box?

Wojtek
the sub is on the floor between the monitors set back into the frame but not soffited.
Sorry I didn't check the rear controls as they had installed them when I got back to check the studio - I'll look into it for you.
cheers
