Hello Everyone, OVERVIEW My name is Pete and I've been searching through this forum for the past several months and have finally come up with a floor plan for the studio I will be building in a 3000 sq/ft warehouse just outside of downtown Chicago. At the moment I only need a tracking room and a control room, though I will be able to expand once I clear out other areas of the warehouse to add booths, machine room, and lounge. The styles of music I mostly do is rock, punk, metal, etc. Money isn't a huge issue, though I'm planning on keeping it down to a few thousand American Dollars, as we will be building it ourselves since the warehouse is also a woodshop. DIMENSIONS- This studio will be built in an industrial warehouse with 25' high ceilings and a concrete floor. The studio is going to be in the middle of the warehouse along the West wall which is 1' thick exposed brick. In order to keep the isle in the middle of the warehouse large enough, I can only build out 18' from the brick wall and have cleared out about 24' worth of space, so I'm looking at an 18' by 24' dimension to build in. The only walls that can have entrances are the East wall and the North wall. CONTROL ROOM- According to the design, the control room will be just over 16' long with the end near the west side brick wall being about 10'7" and the opposite wall about 12'. I plan on building the ceiling about 10-12' high. TRACKING ROOM- The tracking room will also be about 16' long, measuring 10'6" at the west end near the brick wall and about 9'6" at the other end. The ceiling for the tracking room will also be about 10-12' high. ABSORPTIVE/ REFLECTIVE SURFACES CONTROL ROOM- I'm planning on covering the soffits for my monitors in fabric as well as the side walls. The back wall I was planning on installing a slot resonator / diffuser with bass traps in the corners. The ceiling I'm undecided on, though I will probably cover in fabric and build a cloud for absorption and light fixures above the mix position. Since I'm not planning on floating any floors, I'm going to lay down an absorptive mat and layer carpeting over it. TRACKING ROOM- For the tracking room, I'm planning on putting a slot resonator on the west wall, as illustrated in my design. The rest of the walls I'm just planning on covering in wall board. At first I'm going to keep the floor with the bare conrete unless I get too much subsonic interferences (The studio is across the street from train tracks and a half mile from every major expressway). The ceiling I was planning on covering in fabric. GEAR CONSOLE- Vintage TRIDENT T24 w/ 4x 96 pt ADC bays MONITORS- Dynaudio BM5A (hopefully soon Genelec 1031's :) ) RECORDING SYSTEM- Pro Tools Mix Plus w/ 3-888/24 and a PowerMac G4 QUESTIONS I think I'm on the right track with most of this, though I'm still unsure of how I'm going to build the ceilings. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Should I build it 12' high on one end and go down to 10' at the other end? Also how do my ideas for acoustical treatments look? Thanks a lot in advance, Pete PS- I'll be posting pictures of the actual warehouse space early on this week.

Pete - as you have plenty of ceiling height I'd angle the ceilings as well as the walls. cheers john
Thanks for the quick reply John, does it matter how much they are angled?
minimum of 10 degrees at least. cheers john
