Hey guys, I’ve read through the entirety of this brilliant, informative and much appreciated website, but I still can’t get a good mixing station together. I’d like to say thanks up front to all the creative minds who’ve added to this great online community, especially its founder and other chief contributors. I’m a small time underground rock artist living on a shoestring in NYC and what I need directly is the best possible mixing environment given my lousy (yes, basement) apartment dimensions. It should be noted there are no windows and practically the only ventilation comes from the front door, therefore I’d like to keep the length of the main space as open as possible for circulation. This place is rented so I can’t build anything too elaborate but I’m open to building what I need to get the job done. The room marked ‘drums’ is where I record/practice the drums and the rest of the palace is waiting for suggestions. I have no problem moving the drums if necessary. The listening position below was loosely based on John’s “dormer studio” as posted, but then the room specs differ and side walls are questionable. Some professional advice would be very helpful. Peace out. Ps. ‘Sketch Up’ rocks! Thanks for the heads up. Floor: concrete with linoleum tiles Ceiling and walls: 5/8” sheetrock/gypsum board Ceiling height: 7’ 1 1/2” all over Loudness: not a problem or moderate mixing level Budget: under $800 US/1,065.03 AUD Monitors: Ns-10’s and Epi 100’s on stands Refrigerator: Newcastle and Labatts 50 Stage: planning

maybe consider switching the drum and console spaces? put the drums in the hall area and put the control room in the bedroom. turnoff/unplug any noisy kitchen equipment when recording...
