Hi,
Just a quick one, I can't seem to find anything on this here (a LOT of threads come up but maybe my search criteria is not great)
Rod's book mentions studs to be between 16" and 24" oc.
We were planning to use 600mm centres - however, 450mm has been suggested as a preference we should aim for - are smaller (450mm) centres better acoutically than say 600mm centres?
Then we are ready to order the timber ....and doors and fyrestop (16mm) etc etc
FYI Our design is at

It is being updated as we speak - this week

Timber stud centres - spacing preference?

I learned this a bit too late myself, but in general, wider stud spacing tends to increase isolation. So, if you can safely do the wider spacing, you should do so.

But I've also heard that it doesn't really matter all 'too much', and that other factors might 'override' it... for example, like having different framing spacings between the inside and outside leaves (?).
Is that true?

Generally a wall with 24" centers when properly damped (insulation with or without green glue) will flex more, absorbing more sound than it transmits (as compared to a stiffer 16" center framework.
I've yet to see anyone build/test a wall with 24" centers one side, 16" the other... Steve
Makes a lot of sense.
Thanks so much for getting back to me so fast fellas! I appreciate it.
So 600mm centres it is 8)
