I am in the process of designing a room (drawing to come soon), that will be a multi-purpose room for both Tracking and Mixing. I really prefer to wor kwith musicians without the physical barrier. I have worked in both types of rooms, and have found that the benefits of having hands on contact with the musicians far outwiehgs the sound quality gained from having isolation. I track with headphones, and constantly record sounds when I am setting up to reference my sounds.
I have about 32' x 32' and 11.5' ceilings to work with, their is an existing bathroom inside this square, and I would like to have a small lounge. But other than that, one large tracking/contrl room. I was thinking haveing one end of the room tapered down to meet the control room needs, and wheeling in big gobos to put behind the console/computer when mix time comes.
I will be monitoring with a pair of HR-824s and a pair of hotroded KLH model-6's (I just love the way they sound, and i know them really well).
Has anyone tried a hybrid design like this before? Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Alex
