Hi guys. So I've come to the realisation that im going to need some type of fresh air ventilation for the LR, as it should be pretty much sealed. The CR is of less importance, as i can always go the old fashioned route of opening up a door when mixing etc, however I havent written off fresh supply to the CR either. On another thread, I saw a post from John that said, "Feeding fresh air into the room is therefore vital but need not be expensive. A couple of simple MDF boxes lined with insulation with a fan on the intake would do the job and the long length of MDF Box would act as a silencer." So im working on the above principle. Air Con is not a current option, so im really looking into a fresh air supply. Im a clueless when it comes to HVAC, so please excuse my ignorance! From the little resurch ive done, I've found larger ducts are the way to go, with larger, slower fan units. Also I've read Plenum's are the way to keep islation. Questions; Obviously i need some kind of duct connected to a fan pushing air into the studio from outside. Do i also need an "exhaust" ( i dont know the correct term  ) duct aswell? If there is no exhaust duct, and sealed room inside, will artist spontainiously combust over my nice new LR floor?  Whats to stop someone shouting into the fan on the outside of the building going down the duct and into the studio? Whats to stop joe blogg's guitar sound traveling down the duct and out of the building? Im sure there are some good threads, and I've have tried a search, but only came up with one or two, so if you know a thread that'll help me out, please post a link to it. Ive put up a diagram of what i think would do it, but I'm probably far off, so please let me know; I need your critisism!! Thanks guys. oZ

EDIT... Sorry, i forgot to say, I own a copy of Rods book, but I couldnt really get my head around the concepts of the different air con units, and thought the systems were more advanced to what i was looking to do. oZ

If you don't have an exhaust there is nowhere for the air to go - it will just build up pressure and cease airflow.
If there is no exhaust duct, and sealed room inside, will artist spontainiously combust over my nice new LR floor?
see above.

The duct is lined with absorption that absorbs the sound as it travels down the duct. Thus stopping the effect you are refering to. cheers john
Ok that makes sense. I also read somewhere that the duct insulation cannot contain moveable fibres as it could be a danger to inhale? So the diagram above plus the same track backwards would be right, but the fan would be sucking out instead of sucking in? Thanks again for all the great help and info john. Oz
Oz - ducts are usually lined with semi rigid fiberglass that has a perforated aluminium lining to prevent the particles from becoming airborn. cheers john
