Hi folks,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
They place that I do live sound want to put in a control room. Unfortunately, the size they are allowing is rather small. 10x8x? (LxWxH).
I used a question mark for the height because I could probably go up to 14 feet . But I was leaning to toward ft. so 10x8x11
Sound proofing the CR is not necessary. What would be the best solutions for bass absortion. In this case would thinner wall work better? one layer of sheet rock on the outside with rigid fiberon the inside covered in cloth? This way the bass can just transfer into the big room in which this little control room will reside.
Any suggestions would be awesome.

I'd go the full height, then do a frame at around 9 feet (sloped up at the rear, away from the speakers) - cover with gypsum wallboard, put several vents around the perimeter, and fill with unfaced mineral wool or fiberglass. You don't have much room in the floor plan for traps, this would do a lot of bass trapping without taking up floor space. Then REALLY thick mineral wool (3 PCF preferably behind your speakers and in front corners, a few pieces of same stuff at first reflection points, and you should be in pretty good shape... Steve
Steve,
thansk so much. If you could address the questions below that would be greatly appreciated.
Just to clarify, these vents are surrounding the perimeter of the cr ceiling? whats the design of each vent? (scratches head)
And when you say fill do you mean fill from the CR ceiling all the way up to the old ceiling or just a layer of insulation covering the CR ceiling?
What about doing acoustic hangers bass absorbtion panels above the ceiling and using dropped down panel ceiling with 703 wrapped in cloth as panels and around the perimeter just cloth panels letting sound freely travel up into the acoustic hangers?
Thanks, Rob

Guess what? BUMP!!
Vents - as simple as using nicer wooden heat register covers over an appropriately sized hole - say, 4x10 inch vents every few feet. Above the ceiling I'd use unfaced fiberglass batts, as much as you can afford or stuff in there. It's simpler than trying to build a bunch of different sized hangers, and then hang them in a direction that will actually work... Steve
