Backer rods mentioned in book

Rod Great book I wish Ihad It before I started. My question is, In your book you mention backer rods when talking about multi layer drywall instalation. Icould not find what this backer rod actually is? LBC

you can buy backer rod at any home center. it's in the weatherstripping aisle, called caulk saver. no one in the store will have heard of it or be able to direct you to it. it's much cheaper to get bulk at http://www.loghelp.com/backerod.html

i forgot to answer your question, backer rod is a closed cell foam rope that comes in various sizes and lengths. if you want to seal a quarter inch gap between drywall and other surface use 3/8 inch backer rod so it compresses and makes tight seal. then seal with sound caulk. it not only saves caulk, it's most useful at it alows the caulk to cure with only two hard points of contact. this gives it the flexability not to crack over time
