Thanks Philip, As you mentioned, its an ongoing matter thet I think I will resolve within the comming days, keep an eye on this posts. My flight is going very soon boarding, bye bye. Cheers
So, back from Russia, what have the guys done while I'm being away for 14 days? I do it easy for my self, and attach some pics. :) They ran out of material, and the supplyer was sick so, not much have been done as planned. We have now a work list compiled again, and I have been done some punch listing of the work and the insulation has been accidentially puched in to the trap before the slats was installed. So we have to remove slats, needed to be stained anyway, and remove fabrics in two sections to readjust the insulation to be flush + a few mm to ensure no air gaps betveen slat/fabric/insulation. We will put wall paper on the other walls and paint the walls in the near future as well as we will complete the second wall, but we need more material and staining the material. Last will be the laminate floor and clouds, spot lights.

Looks very nifty :) hope it was a nice trip to mother russia...
Shalom Filip, sure was the trip to Russia nice, will go back soon again. The problem is that it is little time left for me to enjoy the Russian life style full as I work too many hours, but I've got the opportunty to jam with a Russian Rock'n'roll band before I left, and that was fun. They played a lot of 50-60ies, and I was happy, long time since I played core rock'n'roll. I have redone a portion of the insulation work done while I was away, but it was faster than I expected... :D T :D his is wall no.. 2 and its almost completed.. :D Think that the picture will show a part of the progress, we have stared to put up wall paper and planning for new floor (laminate) Still in discusion of if we will install halogen spotlights. We also plan to install defection boards in the ceiling. We installed the slats in one bay first, we focused on the eye hight and tried to get a fake symmetry by extending the patterns not exactly the same gaps for 5 slats from wall 1 towards wall 2, see pic, wall 2 is a bit more deep and I have calculated the strip of slats to still be within the modes for the room. As you can see from the pics did we build downwards from the eye catching area. Cheers kaj

I have been folllowing your progress and have not had anything specific to say so far, other than it looks great! Andre
Andre, Thank you, its nice to hear that you like it, we shall hopefully get the wall paper done this week, and more wood has arrived, so I have to get the stainer to get red handed again, he looks like a butcher after 100 metre of staining   I will keep documenting the progress as long as I,m home. Cheers Kaj
:D I´m happy to continue with our progress. And here we go again! Again pics saying more than thousand words.... I have swapped over two radiators to accomodate another absorber. And my friends has put up most of the wall paper. And a few square metres of prime painting done. Cheers Kaj

Hi, I have a plan to install soft wood fibre board (same as advertisement board for pins) to get rid of flutter between floor and ceiling. We will have laminate floor so it will be quite reflective, but these boards are a bit dead at HF but reflect mid range. I will remove all light fixtures and install Halogen spot lights instead. I would like to have your experience on hanging panels suspended and slanted from the ceiling. I will make a frame and fill some of them with 50mm glass wool, coated with perforated foil. The glass wool will be resting on the fibre board. I plan to slant as per picture, 11 deg. I would like to know if anyone have done any thing like this, and give me a thumb up or advice on what to do, and/or not to do. Shall I hang them like this?
Image not preserved: Ceiling panels.jpg
Hanging boards with an angle will DEFLECT sound (not diffuse) so it'll do something but I'd bet my money on absorption first. Are these only wood or is there going to be some 703 (or alike) hanging there? Absorption will take care of flutter better than deflection ps. That window looks like one giant sound leak (no mass)

Ro, thanks, I should write Deflect sound and avoid flutter. I will put similar to OC 703 on top of the board, i dont want to kill the high end completely. I will use 50mm with foil coating on one side and shift as needed, foil up or down or no glass wool at all. I will install at least two wall absorbers for HF with fluffy insulation for HF control. I still want to use these boards to fine tune the room. And if you read in the beginning of this thread, We are not looking for a studio quality with isolation of sound, only a nice sounding rehearsal room, so leak through windows are not a problem, at all.. I have attached a new maybe a bit better pic over my plan for deflecting boards.

Hi, It was nice to get a break from x-mas hysteria and get into the work clothes again   . So all broadband absorbers are completed and only a few slats to be stained. Next on the work list are to completed wall paper, painting walls and ceiling. Some rewireing of the electrical system to have lights, ventilation fans segregated from the wall sockets. Acoustics trimming with two wall mounted HF absorbers and some of the slanted boards that will be the last job together with a new floor. So we have a bit of work remaining to do. So yesterday we get the painting started of the first coating of the yellowish paint that will be the final colour. And completed the last two helmholtz absorbers included all wood work on them, balance only staining. And again, I keept my camera with me to documenting progress. Cheers

Hej Kaj Nice work! looking good! btw. on the pic Kaj65.JPG you're really looking swedish, guess why? :D what kind of music will you do in this location? because the red colour will put some aggressions in ;-) keep going the good work. cheerz roman
Thanks Roman, The pic Kaj 65 is not me, but the colours are familiar as in the Swedish flag. And the red, no anger in the music, most blues and soul, and a energic rock n roll, I like the heavy rock from 1979's so it will be a bit of that as well, if we just could get this completed. Cheers
is this still keeping under your original budget of 4k?
8) Orksnork, Yes < 4k, if I dont include what has been on the owners budget, and how much that is I might never know but I assume >4k in materials. Our own budget still within margin as we do not count our own labour cost and we have not needed any contractors or craftsmen so far on this project, that would break the budget in a few days, I estimate that we have put in some 3-400hrs so far (value 9-12k). The company has been very kind and supportive in delivering material :o . So we are very :D :D :D Cheers
Happy New Year all, I have som updates of recent work done. All walls are painted and the light fixtures (flourocent) removed. Installed new Halogene light total 1200W, and two ventilation fans segregated from light circuit. I kept the camera and used no flash to give a feeling of the spot light effect. Cheers

I running a thread for placing the suspended ceiling boards in the acoustics section. See link: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... 4941#54941 Cheers
:D Hi See updates in link for suspended ceiling; http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... 4992#54992 Cheers Kaj
Out of curiousity, what are you doing for electrical outlets along your helmoholtz wall....I didn't see any. Cheers, Kris
Hi Kris, I have not done the wireing for the power sockets yet (watch this space), only light and ventilation fan done so far! Reasons being that I want to have the floor done and put the floor trims (base board/Skirting board) in. Intend to have 10 sockets on two independant phases, so hopefully will I have that done by middle of next week if I dont get a real good work done comming days and weekend then it will be completed by Sunday! All electrical material already with me. Floor is here and the trims to be ordered and stained. plan to get the suspended ceiling installed latest on this comming friday, fingers crossed!! If any delays in the trims, will I install the cables using a dummy trim along the ceiling/floor and install cables and power sockets. :D :D :D But thanks for the bump, I might order the trims tomorrow and than I can start to install the sockets before the weekend, I have the time do I have the power??? 8) 8) 8) Cheers
Thanks Steve, you firming up Ro's suggestion to make them curved but not tilted. The flutter that I've been hearing, are related to ceiling VS floor, will love to get rid of that, even if it increase the RT 60 time, I will add insulation or more traps to deal with that later when no flutter exist. More progress, Finnished of the three HF absorbers, see link for details on how I built them; http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... 5065#55065 Some questions :?: : We also got the laminate floor today (Walnut) and, the soft fibre board that will be doing the suspended ceiling deflection/diffusion job, still thinking in how much in radious I can bend them? One idea  is to use the distance from the nearest helmhotz wall as radious for the curve (aiming at the high end of the absorber area), am I trying to do things that has no effect on the sound? Do I over estimate the deflection effect of those fibre boards? A second idea  is to use 2/3rd of the ceiling hight as radious, cant justify why this 2/3rd more than I just feel it to be right (?) :?: They are about 1,2mx2,4m and 12mm thick, they are very soft so I think I can make a arc/curve with a 1,6-2,4m radious. Any suggestions? I would like to know if its good to combine glue and screws to fix the board to the curved frame? The board is like soft pressed dust! Think I can use my index finger and punch a hole through it if I tried.

I wasn't talking about using the soft soundboard at all - poly's are usually made from relatively thin plywood, typically 1/4" (6mm or so) because it CAN be bent without turning to dust. It's also available in nice veneers so all you need to do is stain or paint... Steve
Thanks Steve,

I've got your message about the Soundboard and the thin plywood, but too late for stopping the order of it :? :( . So now I hope that we will be okay, I like the idea to be able to stain or paint the curved boards and get rid of the flutter, I expect the same acoustic properties from the soft soundboards i.e flutter killing (not painted), can I? :?: Following statement and questions is based upon my previous experience (light) and my sound engineering/acoustics edjucation (shallow/old?) What is the bad thing(s) to use Soundboard for what I intend to use it for :? , (anything good with Soundboards VS polys at all?). I have seen One of the legend Bruce Swedien's 8) personal friend in Sweden (Björn Asplind) design of a studio with this sound board as deflecting/diffusion devices suspended from the ceiling :) :D :) . Background of Björn; Björn wrote an Sound engineering book for the Swedish musicians/sound engineers in the 80ies 8) , and I had him as a mentor and we used Michael Jacksons Thriller, in Multi track version (thanks to Bruce giving a copy away 8) 8) 8) ) during my Sound engineer training, It might be the old school from 80's that used soundboards and not plywood?? Back to main topic and direction; We will go on and build it with Soundboards and change if it is sounding/looking bad :P , the show must go on!!! Only a prompt DONT DO IT can stop us now (the frames can be recycled into plywood design  , and soundboards can be recycled to gobos!! Damage control and no waste!! 8) 8) 8) Cheers
