What exactly did you "try?" That post is a list of information we need to provide you with any ideas, plans, suggestions, etc. At an absolute minimum, we need to know where in the world you are. Construction methods, materials, costs are very different in different parts of the world (and different parts of the US for that matter). You've given us no information on the current construction your trying to work in, what "noise" you're trying to keep out of the booth, what kind of HVAC system you'll require etc. We really don't have much more than "please design me a vocal booth" to work on and anything someone would suggest with so little information to go on would be suspect at best and flat out wrong at worst. Please answer as many of the BOLD points in that post as you can and you'll get much better responses here. len
im sorry... i tried to be specific.... im from st.paul minnesota.... noise im trying to keep out- i am trying to keep out any noise going on in the control room, Monitors, voices, anything...... im trying to get away from the sound i have now.... Please update your Profile. If you put your location in a post, someone trying to help you is going to have to read through all of them to find it. If it's in your profile, it will show on the left hand side of the screen under your name in every post. I'm sorry to be so anal about this but if you want more wide spread responses, it will pay off for you in the long run.

You're missing my point here. "Any noise..." doesn't really tell us anything. Is it from cars on the street? Other family members? Noisy neighbors? Noisy plumbing? All of this makes a difference in what suggestions you'll get. The design you show is good for a picture of what you want where but I would not recomend building what's shown in the drawing - it looks awful flimsy to me and would be difficult to attach a couple of layers of drywall to. You will also have another problem with this design if you just slap up drywall on both sides of the studs: It will sound like you are singing in the shower, i.e., there will be a lot of echo and "boxiness" to whatever you record. My vocal both is of similar dimensions and it took $400 of Auralux foam to treat the walls to deaden the room enough to be usable! That's almost your whole budget and you haven't built the walls yet!!! You should do a search on this forum for what's called an "inside out" wall. That design should be workable within your budget (if you're careful), and should give you a very dead room (which is what you want in a vocal booth. Lastly, if you got that picture from another post in this forum, please just leave a link to the post instead of using an oversized picture. The moderators can be absolutly brutal about people posting pictures that are more than 700 pixels or so wide. You would make a lot more friends here if you said you had a picture that was too big and would like some help resizing it BEFORE posting it. People have been banned from the forum for posting large pictures in the past. PLEASE read the first few posts at the top of every forum because they layout the "rules" we are asked to abide by to use this free service. len
ok.... it is in a basement..... there will be no worry of cars or anything of that matter, just squeeky floors from above.... and monitors..... washer machine in other room, stuff like that... inside out walls... i did a search and couldnt really find anything that will help me, like i said im new to internet and forums.... the pic is just the basic idea of what i had in mind..... where it will be placed against the wall, and whatnot.... if you have better plans it would be greatly appreciated... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- what do you think of these plans? http://www.hip-hop.com.au/mcin/tips/vocalbooth.htm
From the link that Aaron posted:
Use the search feature to look for threads that may contain the answer to your question. There is a wide variety of projects represented in this forum -- everything from relatively low-budget residential rehearsal rooms to full-scale, professional recording studios. If your searches return too many results, try multiple terms with "Search for all terms" enabled.
I know this question has been answered already, but...

I realize you're new to the Internet and forums... But surely you're familiar with search engines like Google, right? Searching for "HVAC" on Google returns over 21 million results, the first few of which make the definition pretty clear. The third link in the results points to the Wikipedia entry for HVAC, which when you click on it starts out with this:
HVAC (pronounced either "H-V-A-C" or, occasionally, "H-VAK") is an initialism/acronym that stands for "heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning". This is sometimes referred to as climate control.
With all due respect, it while you may in fact be new to the Internet or forums, I think you're simply not dedicating enough time and effort to educate yourself. We all are able and willing to assist, but I'm sure you'll get better results if you work a little harder at helping yourself first. 8) --Keith
It's an interesting idea if you want a moveable structure (as opposed to one that is bolted to the floor. For your requirements though, I don't think you'd get enough isolation because: 1) No top 2) The corners are not air tight (air tight = sound tight). The biggest part of this design is that the foam he's talking about is FLAMABLE and the smoke it gives off is toxic. Audio foam is expensive for a reason. This design would be much better if you replaced the foam with slabs of mineral wool. The only drawback to this is you would have to cover the MW on the inside with some sort of (flame-resistant) fabric. Also, a single layer of MDF isn't going to give you the isolation of a couple of layers of 5/8" drywall and it's much more expensive than drywall. I suggest you look through John Peel's studio build on this site because he built just this type of wall and is pretty happy with the results. It's a much bigger project than yours but the technique is the same. Bear in mind that you are going to need some sort of top/ceiling on this structure to noise out and it needs to be every bit as good as the walls. You haven't mentioned what building skills/experience you have or what tools you have available. I haven't seen any information as to how you would get the materials down into the basement. 5/8" drywall (or MDF for that matter) are EXTREMELY heavy and you'd need two people to move it from the truck to the basement. If you have no skill at all in building, I would advise you to hire a builder to at least draw up some plans for you to make sure it meets building codes and such. You will also need to get a permit from the city BEFORE construction begins. Failure to do so could have bad consequences from having to tear it all down, to having your insurance company refuse to pay on a claim, to making your house difficult to sell in the future. len len
