Hello, I have 2 windows of 5 ft x 4 ft on the back wall of my live room. Instead of using sheet glass I thought that Glass Blocks might be a better solution?!?! I have found a couple: Either 190 x 190 x 100 (thick) Or Fire Ones which are 190 x 190 x 100 but are 2 50m blocks glued together... Do you think its worth the extra money for the fire blocks as they are £10 a block and the 100m solid is £3.50 Im looking to keep the light but cut the sound as much as possible. Windows have double glazing already and have a 140m sill to put the blocks in. Thanks for your help in advance :)
So, the experts will be along in a second, but to my understanding, you probably don't want to use glass block, depending where you're putting it. Basically, glass block is hollow, which creates a desireable M-A-M (mass air mass) system. However, if you put another pane of glass in front (your existing window) you're creating the dreaded three-leaf system. Use the search feature to look for John's explanation, I'll never be able to do it justice. So, assuming I'm understanding what you intend to do, you want to avoid using the glass block altogether. Thanks for the reply, Basically yea I dont want to have a triple leaf system, I could put in another double glazed window so we are looking at 4 sheets of glass total or go with the blocks... Anyone know which is better or seen these in action? J
surely someone knows something?!?!?!
Glass blocks work just fine for me. I have a glass block window right behind my console and it does a great job with isolation. If I go out side the music is very faint when I put my ear to it. Its a big window 57" x 57". Or 1.4m x1.4m Later
