Help appreciated.
My name is Anders from Stockholm in Sweden. I am going to build a studio for making video courses. I have been reading a lot in the forum during the last weeks and bought some books about studio design. Tried to learn the basics and have had a lot of fun. But I feel it would be helpful to get some advice on the best way to build my studio.
What I want to do.
I have a teleprompter and a video camera and are filming me as a “news” reader at the news. Behind me I have a “chroma green” screen. So I can remove the background when editing the video. I mix the “news” recordings with recordings from computer screens and then I do voiceovers. But I will use the studio for music listening too.
I think a layout like a control room would be good for me. In front of me behind the “studio window” I have a combined voice over both and equipment room. With the video camera, teleprompter and my computers. The measurement for the telepromter window are 53 cm x 53 cm. The depth for the telepromter and video camera are 80 cm. In the front studio wall I need my monitor speakers and two computer screens too. The monitor windows are approximately H 28 cm x W 37 cm.
When recording and filming i sit in the studio at a control room desk where I have my mixer ,microphone, microphone preamplifier, headphone amplifier and computer keyboards. So the main use for the studio are going to be vocal recording and voice over recording.
My basement.
I have attached a drawing in Sketch Up of my basement. All perimeter walls are made in concrete. The room have bare concrete walls, floor and ceiling at the moment. I have to make it sound proof since “noice” from the building are coming my way. Think 45 x 90 mm studs with 95 mm insulation and 2 x 12 mm gypsum boards facing the outer wall with a 75 mm air gap will be good enough.
The “boxes in the ceiling are round water pipes and are not boxed like the drawing. But the measurements indicate the space they take up. On one of the walls there is a radiator mounted as shown in the drawing. The wall with the radiator and the small windows are facing the street but is “under ground”. The other walls are facing other storage rooms in the basement. The inner walls are all 350 mm concrete. The ceiling are facing my own office which is a quiet area.
I have done some modal calculations for a square room and used RPG room sizer program and found some room sizes that fits my basement. But I want to transfer this to a design with “control room” layout with bevelled walls.
I saw a tread with a studio layout John made earlier that would be almost what I need:

I think the control room in layout 3 should do the job. But I am unsure how the “front design” of the studio have to be altered if the room length becomes shorter. Do anyone have details or any better ideas ?
