Hi all!
I'm new here, but than, what is new? I'm about to put together a media complex from duplicating to a recordingstudio. There is only one question: what kind of software is the best for making a good drawing? I was used to draw with pen and a drawingboard but I had to get rid of them when moving to my new house. Now I'd like to do it digital style, but what should I use? I looked around on the net but couldn't find any usefull programs...
I tried CAD but that is not the way for my I'm afraid. Now I use Floorplan 3D, but there is a lot of things in the program that indicates that it is not made for designing studio's. Is there a workable piece of software that I can use, just as an ordinairy designer that was used to use a drawingboard and a pen without too many restrictions to create whatever is inside my head?
Please let me know, thanks!

Try Google sketchup
http://www.sketchup.com/
It's fantastic and really intuitive.
Also if you search (for .skp files) on this forum you will find templates, complete studio designs and studio related components....

OK Declan, thanks a lot for the software suggestion! I used it right away and made a rough draw from what I had in mind.
No names yet but I'm getting there! Someone has any suggestions? Oh, it's all metrical, I live in Holland... :) Nice forum for sure! One is never too old to learn and all this knowledge together is worth a lot!
from front to back: duplication, practice room, MIDI/producer room, registration, recording and last a editing/mastering.
On the other side (not drawn yet) of the building there's a diningroom and kitchen and a small TV studio with seperate video registration/editing.
ok - are the walls between rooms already built?
Do you mean Mix Room or Control Room, Controlekamer, when you say registration?
cheers
john
Hi John,
Yes that should be the control room. No walls build yet, it's a large empty hall, the dimensions are: 8 m high 27,5 m deep and 7,5 m wide. It's a former storage hall with a big sliding door in the beginning. There use to come trucks inside to load and to unload. I include a picture to show you the hall. Hope if gives you an impression. We are planning to make a ceiling over the studio's to make a number of rooms for storage. So I can use about 4 or 5 m height from the floor up for the studio's. Hope this will answer your questions.
