Hi folks,
my name is Stefan and I'm well on the way to build my first homerecording studio. As I'm a hobby musician it's going to be a one room studio in the basesment of my house. So, tracking and mixing have to be done in the same room. This is why I care for good acoustics in this room and studied this forum hopefully enough not to ask some stupid questions. ;-) (by the way: this is by far the most comprehensive and helpful forum on the web when it comes to studio design questions. So thanks to John and all other members :-)
Back to my studio: I mainly will record electric guitars, pianos, and vocals. Noise level is no problem, so I don't have to care for isolation. I made a drawing of my room with dimensions and placement of instruments. Some more info: The walls and ceiling are concrete, the floor is going to be laminate. Room dimensions are: width: 4,1m, length: 6,2m, height: 2,4m.
In particular I have the following questions:
1.) What do you think of this combination of diffusors, bass traps, and slot resonators? Is the placement of the resonators ok, are the bass traps well dimensioned, do the diffusors make sense?
2.) What can I do for ceiling treatment as the room height is pretty low. I thought of using some "minitraps" in the corners like the ones on ethan winers homepage (panels made of rockwool 1,2m x 0,6m enclosed with cloth)
3.) What can I do to treat the front of the room with the windows? I don't have a clue there. But I want to keep the windows functional, so I could get some fresh air after a 24 hour recording marathon :-)
Hopefully I provided enough information for some feedback.
Any thoughts or comments would be very appreciated!
best regards from Berlin, Germany

control room / tracking room treatments?

Hi there!
I haven't started the works on my little one-room studio yet and as I didn't get any replies I thought of another attempt. :-) I played some time with Sketchup and this came out...
Wood for most of the DIY-treatment is already ordered and I'd like to start within the next 2 weeks with the works. The only thing I changed from my first design are the Bass-trap hangers in the rear of the room.
So my questions are still the same.
I would be very pleased if someone could give a comment.
bye, Stefan
