Hello all,
I have landed a side gig doing the mastering for a CD/DVD duplication company in Cincinnati. I have known these guys for many years and have seen the mastering room go through several changes in those years.
Anyhow, by taking this position, I have the chance to redo the acoustics and look of the place. Originally, it had a false wall at the rear made of (yup, you guessed) pegboard covered in industrial carpet, glued. Behind this as you can see in the pics, was some plain ol R-19 fluff. In my experience there, the room always had some weird thing going on in the low end and maybe this was the cause. There was no design or calculation when this wall was put in, just, "Hey, let's put a false wall in...."
So, we are removing the pegboard and filling the 2' space with 3lbs/ft3 Roxul and putting some of the R-19 batts in the stud cavities then covering with fabric. The soffits at the front of the room have had the drywall removed and they will be filled to the brim with the roxul as well making some corner traps. 6" panels will be hung on the walls to tame the flutter and perhaps a clould dropped below the drop ceiling over the engineer position.
I'm hoping this will yield a rather nice sounding room in the end. Ratio looks close to a decent ideal one and we should be dead enough to get a more accurate response from the Dunlavy SC-IVa's. Working in there now is lacking in the bottom octave.
This job is started and moving fast, If you have any suggestions, fire away. Thanks for looking.

Oh yea, forgot....
The floor is going to be a click-lock laminate with a sub-pad over concrete. Ceiling is going to remain a drop with basic panels. There is R-19 stuffed above in the joists. Hopefully we'll get better panels than what is there now but nothing fancy.

Any thoughts??? I guess we're on track then.
What is that optimal percentage for the listening position in a room? The distance from the front to the listener.... it was something like 40%, more than a third but less than a half.

I read somewhere that 5% from the center of the room is ideal as a listening position, if all else is taken care of...which seems to be the case. Seems the golden ratio is very applicable in all things sound... I also have a mastering room. Enjoy yours :)Any thoughts??? I guess we're on track then.
