I hope someone will help me out with a design. It would be great if someone could do a layout for me. Ive tried using the free version of sketchup but have started over ummmm 20 times now its getting frustrating. I have the dimensions done in paint, hopefully someone can read the file/dimensions and help me using them. Let me say that my main concern is sound proofing the control room. I have no neighbors to worry about when dealing with the isolation of the live room. If someone can help me, that would be great. Thanks Eddie

Hi all, I'm looking at my original post and I guess its pretty vague as to what Im really looking for or wanting out of this space. I'm going to try to be a little clearer in what Im trying to accomplish. Maybe this will get the ball rolling. I just recently signed the lease on this space and this is on the second floor of an older warehouse near downtown Cincinnati. The above drawing is how the space is setup now. The previous tentant used the space for rehearsal and some recording. He started to build the control room but never got it finished and his attempt seems makeshift at best. Not what I would want or invision based on reading and seeing designs on this site. The control room as it stands now is too small for my taste. I dont think I could even begin to spend more then a 1hr at a time mixing in this space. The dimensions seem decent enough but actually being in the makeshift control room its not big enough. I was hoping someone could help redesign the space and make it acoustically/dimensionally correct. I plan knocking out the wall and door facing the live room and extending it out more to give more space. I want this project to be done correctly, so I ordered Rod's book and also ordered another studio building book, neither have arrived yet. I really want to do this right and make into a useable studio space. Please help me get started on my project. Any info you need I can try to provide. oh and the date on the camera is alot off.

Hi Eddie, I think you need to give a little more information for people to help you, it doesnt matter if you are paying our not thats not going to be an issue, people will help you but only if they see its going to come to some use. I would add this info then see what happens: Whats your budget for this project? What do you want out of the space ie is rehearsal and a little mixing your priority or will it be more of a mixing studio with small live room....basically what do you want to be able to record? Full band or solo instruments etc. You definately dont want your entrance to be straight into the live room as you will be trapped in the control room if a band is in there. What are the ceilings and floor made from? Personally looking at the plans I would flip it and make the current live room the control room and take it down to 14.9ft and use that odd shape of the room for a double door system into the new live room. 8)

Altered Beats, Thanks for the reply and the pointers. The space is going to be used for tracking full bands....voiceover.....hiphop....Mixing and Recording. This is not intended to be a rehearsal room. My Budget is roughly give or take a little with Christmas coming $2,000.00 a month until its complete not to exceed $8,000.00 in total costs. (rented space). 10,000 is the limit but 8,000.00 is what I keep telling myself. The floor is concrete and the ceiling is a standard drywall ceiling with two skylights that the previous tentant had covered with ceiling tiles. I would like to get the control room done first so I can start using the space and start doing some vocal recording/mixing. After the CR is done, work on the live room for bands as I go while still making money from the vocal work and music production that can be done in the CR. I have a vocal booth being delivered this weekend to get me started. I know youre thinking why spend all that money on a Vocal booth. I figured it was the quickest and easiest way to get going without building a vocal booth. I have some help with framing and drywall that actually do that as their day job. So I think building the control room should go pretty smooth. I was hoping to have the control room completed in 2 months time, the rest done in 4months. Can it be done with my given budget? Control room.....Drum booth.....live room and able to fit a 4 x 6 vocal booth? Can it be done in 4 months? Peace Eddie
Well over 200 views and I still could use some help. :) I have found someone to do the framing and drywall at a decent price, which is always great. I have someone to get whatever electric wiring that I need done at a decent price. But I have no ideal how to design this space? I start knocking out the already existing control room wall facing the live room this weekend. Im convinced that space will still be my control room and I will extend it out into the live room to give me more space. I just dont know how to design it so I have enough room for a 2 door airlock between the live room and Control room and still have enough space for soffit mounted speakers. Becuse the wall air conditioning unit is on the back wall of the control room that exists now, I really have no choice but to keep that space as my control room. I know its not ideal to have your entrance open up into your live room but I really dont see any other way. I plan on getting a mini split to heat and cool the live room but not until the control room is done. Im focusing all my funds there first. It would be great to get some help from someone here, so I can get started on my dream. Granted this probably wont be the last studio I ever build but being my first I would like to do it right. Again please help with a design so I can get the framer started. If I'm forgetting any important info for design please let me know so I can get this thing off the ground. Thanks folks Eddie D
Almost 300 views now and only 1 reply. I have visited this site many times over the yrs and never have seen it this slow in replies. Its seems there are only lurkers and people needing assistance, but not alot of people sharing their experience. This is the only site I know of for studio design.....is there others out there that are more active? What information is missing in my posts to get this project started? OR is it really really slow these days? Thanks Eddie
