I am presently building a cuved vaulted ceiling. It is is similar in style to the ones you would find in gothic churches. Could anyone tell me if this would make a good ceiling for a recording studio.

No it wouldn't - concave surfaces are a bane to musical reporduction. That's why the sounds in those churches suck........ Rod

Andreas, what about it - it says the same thing I said - concave surfaces are a no-no. On the other hand, those convex surfaces (as shown in the picture) create parabolic diffusors - which (if the room is large enough) can help with acoustics. Sincerely, Rod
Is the vaulting of the ceiling being done for structural purposes?... or is it just cosmetic?....
errr, sorry about that Rod, I was under the impression that convex was the one to the right, I guess it depends on which "side" you look upon this. Parabolic still didn't make any sense to me as parabolic antennas are concave to me....umbrellas on the other hand are convex.. anyways, the picture sais it all. best (ps. great book btw. I really enjoy it) a

Andreas. Nothing to apologize for. When speaking of concave versus convex - it's always defined from the space you would be viewing it from - thus in this case - from inside the room. The picture on the right is concave (the deeper it gets the bigger the cave) - while the one on the left is then convex. An unmbrella is concave if viewed from the side you use it from - to everyone else (looking at it from the outer world) it would appear to be convex........ It's all a matter of perspective..............

Very nice of you to say.......... I'm happy that you're enjoying it....... Sincerely, Rod
