Hi there....so i have a new project...a 1 car garage on the back of my property that i want to turn into a tracking room with decent isolation....and i want to take my time and do it right. The control room will be in the house...but thats not important for right now. The room is 21' long x 13' wide and the roof is open framing and at its peak is 10' and where it meets the walls it it 7'3". There are also 5 beams running the width of the garage at the wall height of 7'3" spaced approx 4' apart. The floor is a concrete slab and im unsure of how thick it is and the current walls look like 2x4 construction with regular fibreglass and wood siding inside and out. I also have attached a sketch...hope it works
I have disassembled my old studio ( a 3 room basement studio) and have lots of materials....2x3 and 2x4 boards, about 15 bags of roxul mineral wool insulations, a few solid core doors, 25 sheets of 1/2" donnaconna and 10 pieces of 1/4" donnoconna, and 30 sheets of 1/2" drywall and im willing to spend another few thousand...because in the end i want a nice tracking room.
So now comes some questions
1. Would it be best to build a room inside of the existing garage? and would it give better isolation? or should i work on the existing wall?
2. I've read up on floating a floor...would it be a good choice in my situation? due to the lack of height i'd like to keep it small if thats a good choice.
3. If/when i build the inner wall....how should i build them...i dont mean constuction wise but as in i know there should be a lack of parallel surfaces...are there any "magic" numbers and or angles that would help? In my old studio i went and found room ratios that minimized the room modes ...would that be my best choice?
4. With the roof should i close it off where the beams come across? or leave it open and finish the upper angled roof and use the beacms to maybe incorporate some kind of bass trap?
Those are some of my main questions/ concerns and im kinda stuck there...i want to start constuction right away and do it right so any feedback would be great...or anything else that i may have missed that would help me to build this tracking room....and hope i didn't break any posting rules

do you have any pictures?? we really need more info on how the building is constructed - what is the roofing??
BTW - where the hell is Kelowna??
Kelowna is the biggest city around the Lake of Okanaga, British Columbia, Kanada, officiale founded in 1905. 105'000 inhabitants. One of the biggest wine-growing district of canada :-)
Heh -- the location in my profile doesn't leave anything to the imagination in terms of where I live. 8)
(BTW, I would have included "Earth" if the field were big enough. ;-))

hey keith,
Sacramento [] is since 1854 metropolises of the U.S.-federal state California. It lies at the influx of the American tributary in the Sacramento River. The city has 454.330 inhabitants (2004).
:-D
The transverse beams are probably there for direct roof support, but they MIGHT not. If not, they can be relocated a little higher and still serve their purpose, buying you some headroom. (code "permitting" of course) I'd have a contractor check it out like I did...
I am very curious to see where this thread goes. I have a garage of almost identical dimensions (except 2 feet longer) that I am searching out materials (and $$$) to start my project.
It's obviously a concrete slab floor. For flooring I have found some lengths of bowling alley wood (it closed down and they just gave it to me!), where each piece (about 10 ft long) rests on 2" angle irons... VERY HEAVY stuff, but I think it's gonna look real good!
Anyway, for partially selfish reasons, I pray you will get the info you need!!!
