Buying a home with 3 car garage 29' x 21' x 10' How can I determine the best size for the control room still leaving room for a live room. I realize there are trade offs in determining the size but I am looking to keep a good amount of space for the live room as I would like to record small groups as well. A few option sizes would help.
Thanks Mike L.

Welcome to the forum!
I suggest you first visit your local building department to determine how much, if any, of your garage you will be permitted to convert to liviing space. I too have a 3 car garage. My city's planning department requires there to be at least a 10 foot wide by 20 foot deep area unobstructed by any walls, steps, etc. -- basically a "one car garage." Your city may not have such a restriction -- or they may outlaw the conversion altogether. If you live in a neighborhood with a homeowners' association, there may be restrictions at that level as well.
Once you determine how much of your garage slab can be converted to living space (and I'll be crossing my fingers for you that it will be close to 100%, as that would give you maximum flexibility), then you can post a drawing of the existing floorplan, along with a description of any restrictions imposed upon you by the powers-that-be, including the location of any mechanicals, such as the water heater, HVAC furnace or air handler (if any), plumbing valves (if any), posts, beams, and whatnot. Then some ideas for room sizes and shapes can materialize.
I realize this isn't an answer to the question you posed -- I'm just trying to point you in the direction of frustration avoidance by finding out what restrictions you may come up against so that you can plan for them ahead of time. The only worse thing than coming up with an awesome plan, only to be told that you can't build it the way you wanted to, would be to actually build it and then be ordered to tear it all down.
