Hi,
I had started a topic here however I am not going to invest a lot of money at this time. I do however have a lot of old barn boards. They range in width from 6 to 12" and are of varying thickness too. I'm wondering if placing these on the walls of my 11x12' room will help the sound and if so, is there a best way to place them.
-- I also cannot find 703 or rockwool anywhere in my area- are there any other options?
-- One more. I've read alot about the m-a-m design for walls. I have normal walls in that room with chip board plywood on the inside. Should I remove that inner plywood (exposing the framing) and then build an inner walls (2nd leaf) and without 703 can I hope to get any isolation with regular pink insulation?
Thanks
Scott.
What's the best I can do with this floor and lumber

you don't need special insulation to dampen resonance in between the leaves. just filling up the cavity with slightly compressed pink stuff will work as well.
the 703's and rockwool's better sound attenuation really only comes into play to treat the room after isolation has been taken care of
Cool, thanks understood.
I am reading Rod's great book and learning alot. I have a question about my floor. The room is 12'.6"x11'.4". The floor is a typical 2x6 joist construction with half inch chip board on top and then a layer of cheap lanolium over that. I don't have much money to work with. The floor is warped and twisted. Under it is dirt with a gap about approx one foot between the ground and the floor. It's an old house we bought.
Is there anything I can do to make this floor isolated. - Adding a vapour barrier, insulation and mass? Tear it up and pouring a slab would be best I think but I can't afford it right now. I recorded drums in there and the ringing is crazy. I have a lot to do with the room but I will start with the floor. I'm sure this is a common problem.
Thanks
Scott.
