At the moment i am interested in building a recording studio and reheasal studio on a $15,000AUS (melbourne) budget. This would be built inside a warehouse 540sqmters) with concrete floors with 4.5metre tall ceilings. dont have floor plan but here is the link http://www.commercialrealestate.com.au/109375 There would 8 reheasal rooms all 6mX5m (you choose height) with a extra room for storage the for recording there would be a control room, a large live room, and 2 iso booths (for vocals and guitar). The recording studio size and shape is up to you. the rehearsal rooms would not be floating floors but the studio would be. I was thinking double wall all the rehearsal rooms? I would be doing most of the building myself with my family and some carpenter mates, so i wuld just need to by raw materials. The major requirement is that no noise for the rehearsal rooms leaks into the studio so maybe have 4 reheasals rooms on each side of a hall then the storage room then the control room then the first live room? So i'm just wondering if it can be done and if so i will make actual plans lol Cheers
Dobz, welcome; I know you gave your location in the post itself, but as threads get longer, things get lost; so you still need to edit your profile and include your location there; that way it appears under your name for each post. Second, actual measurements would help figure out what's doable, along with details on the existing construction, surrounding neighbors/noise control needs, etc - see the very top link in this forum for a checklist (each BOLD point is something that helps everyone figure things out) Third, I think you left off a zero in your square footage; probably more like 3000? Typically the cheapest one can build acoustic space for is around $50-60 per square foot, and that's with 8 foot ceilings and completely DIY - so your size facility should cost around $120-$150,000 for materials alone, possibly a bit less if your outer shell is already heavy mass and pretty well-sealed. If you go thru that top link I mentioned, answer all you possibly can, things may start to look a bit more rosy but this stuff ain't cheap or fast generally; good luck... Steve
You can't do anything in this game on a budget!!
