Hi studio designers! I have been browsing for some time now and feel the time has come to step forward... My situation is this: I have found a building in Camberwell, London, that I wish to convert into a studio. I have made a model in sketchup of the bottom two floors which I intend to use, the floors above being intended for residential accomodation. I feel that the best use of the space would be to use the open-plan ground floor as a live room, and to convert the outer courtyard into a control room. I intend to create a sloping roof, from the 6' wall furthest from the house to an 8' ceiling meeting the side of the building. French doors are currently in place to exit to the courtyard, with small windows above. I have annotated my sketchup plan to this effect. I realise I will probably have to reduce the number of windows to maximise isolation. My question, at the moment, is this: From the fragments of information I have managed to provide, could anyone suggest a better use of the space I have for the purpose of a live room to record up to 6piece bands and a control room? My apologies for the lack of accurate dimensions. I look forward to hearing from you all! http://haircutrecords.co.uk/empressmews.zip
I've downloaded your file and I'll get back to you. Just a point about sketchup. When you've completed your file you should purge it via Window/Model Info/Statistics/purge unused. YOur original file was 3.7meg. You zipped it down to 1.5meg. I purged it down to 317K. In sketchup every new material you try, then decide not to use, still remains in the file, similarly with components. When you purge the file on the materials and components in you model are retained and the rest are wiped from the file. I've attached the purged file for others. BTW - is it possible to remove the upper loft in the live room?? cheers john

thanks Jon. I wondered why the file was so big. I think the loft needs to stay. Unless you think it's going to cause me serious problems having such an unconventially shaped room? Thanks for looking.

THAT'S a timely tip for my own file. :) Thanks, EH
