I have a TV in my home studio. The wife was watching it while I was doing something on the computer and she brought up a really good point. You can't really "hear" the TV. I say "hear" because it's loud...there's definately sound...but it's hard to make out. You can turn it up all you want but all you get is jumbled sound.
Don't get me wrong, I can understand what they're saying and all that. It's just that it's not as clear as it should be.
Is it a room acoustics issue? I have some treatment over by my mixing position. Bass traps in the corners, treatment at the first reflection points...I also have panels for clouds and the back wall but I haven't hung those up yet.
So...can anyone shed some light on this strange TV issue?

OK -- dumb question... If you took the TV out of the studio, and put it in a "normal" room, does it sound OK?
I'm just trying to rule out the obvious "the speaker in the TV sucks" scenario...

I was hoping to get around having to do that because the TV is heavy. Hahaha. But I guess I don't have a choice.
I don't really care about the sound of the TV...it won't bother me if the TV has a problem. What I really care about is the room sound.
sounds like the TV is the problem. can you hook up the line outs to your mixer and see if that helps? the speakers in tv's aren't usually very high quality.
I think that if when you playback your monitors it sounds decent in the room but when you play the the TV it doesnt, then it is the TV.
It may be that the TV sound system is optimised to have reflective surfaces around it for reinforcing the projection of the sound. By having it in a room with absorber panels , you may be robbing it of that feature and having to turn it up louder than the flimsy poweramp and speakers can handle clearly.
My thoughts anyway.
