Hello!
I'm looking for some advice on modifying my control room door...
I've got a 1 3/4" thick solid core door (mdf core?, that brown stuff that is a mess when you cut into it). I've used a zero international seal kit and bottom jam and threshold. I have a 3/4" piece of laminated glass about 16"x48" that I want to insert into the door.
I've been brain storming, trying to come up with the best way to seal the glass and structurely maintain the door. Not to mention the mdf sucks for screwing or nailing into... The glass is to be sealed with 1/4" neoprene on either side and floated on and surounded with EPDM rubber. Basically, I need to figure out a good wooden stop/blocking method.
Any ideas??? or Existing Threads??
thank you:)

Anyone???
Hey aschatzb
I wish I had the info to answer your question, but unfortunately I don't :(. I'm pretty much looking to do the same thing as you (I think). I'd like to build a door like the one pictured below. I wrote this post:

concerning French doors but got no response. I'm going to rephrase the subject line in the post for Rod or Steve to answer. If I find out anything I'll let you know. (In personal email) If you find out anything, please let me know.
Thanx!
@camistan, hijacking is not done in any forum. you've got your own thread right.
@aschatzb, when driving screws into MDF is a pain, just pre-drill ;)
you might wanna search this forum for window placement. that'll keep you occupied for the next few hours. With any luck you'll have the answer. Altho you need to get the stucturale strenght of the door in check.(!)
Hey Guys,
thanks for trying to help out:)
I've got some basic ideas about how to approach this project, I was hoping for some guidence to make sure I was on the right track. Or some does and do nots....
Conceptually, it seems difficult to attach the frame, maintain structural strenght, and seal the outside edges of the frame...
thank you,
andrew
IMHO, camistan wasn't hijacking. :)
We're all learning here, even though it can get hard to follow; check the link Camistan posted for newer comments by me... Steve
