hey, i have to say this is a brilliant site and i've learnt loads since finding it.
a couple of mates and i are in the process to starting up some practice rooms and recording studio, the premises is a 2 story end terrace building on an industrial estate, so we only have one ajoining wall.
The studio will be on the upper floor (10.9m x 8.1m)
The void is there as there is a roll shutter door down stairs and it needs this space to open fully. the void and stair well currently and a wall around them as indictated in the by the red lines in the diagram.
idealy i would like to include a biggish live room (idealy no smaller than 4m x 5m as this is going to double us as practice space), vocal booth, reasonable sized drum room and the control room. there needs to be access to the live room from a hall way as like i said its doubling as a practice space so we don't want bands going through other rooms to get to it. The control room wants to be a reasonable size as in a couple of years i plan on upgrading to a pro-tools rig centred around a 24 fader digidesign ICON d-command console (width 1.41m)
our budget for building costs is £20,000 (around $US 36,500) this also includes two practice rooms downstairs though.
any ideas on a layout for this would be brilliant and i'm having trouble coming up with a decent one for this.
