Hi guys! Thanks for a great site! Hope you can help me with the design of my new studio! I'm building a project studio in the countryside in Norway ( so neighbours and noise is no problem). I'm starting with 2 rooms. I want 1 recording room and 1 control room. I'll be mostly recording pop/rock music. I don't think there is enough room for a vocal booth but any ideas are more than welcome :D I'm planning on building new walls and ceilling. The owner won't let me touch the old valuable doors so they will have to stay, but I got the permission to build a window in the wall dividing the two rooms. Both rooms can be entered from hallway. Dimensions: Biggest room: H 10'3" L 19'2" W 14' 7" There are two big windows and a fireplace in one corner. Both doors swing inwards to this room. The wall where I can install the window is 5'4" wide. Smaller room: H 10'3" L 16'5" W 14'2" One big window and one open wall leading into the lounge/hallway. A new wall and door can be buildt here if necessary. Budget is somewhere around $10 000+- I've got all the measurements written down. Please let me know if you need them. I will highly appreciate all the help I can get on the design of my new studio. All the best, Jim Berget

Jim - is your .skp correct in it's measurements?? I can't seem to find the 5' 4" wall you refer to. Is the opening where the doors are correct at 11' 4" if so how many doors are there. In other words I need more detail. At first glance it appears you have good spaces, I'd make the smaller room the control room but you'd need a window across the wall with the doorway - is that possible? cheers john
Hi John! The measurements are only approximate as I am new to Sketchup :( Sorry! There are 2 doors as in the picture and they are 3'8" wide. And the 5'4" wall where I can put the window is on the right side of the door looking from the big room into the small room. Do you need more details?? Cheers Jim
Hi again John! Just realized you were referring to the 11'4" space which is actually just an open wall- no doors- leading into the lounge. But I'm planning on building a wall there with a door. Cheers Jim
OK - here's you sketchup file fixed up and the room sizes are correct. I need to know the positions and sizes of the windows and doors. cheers john

Cheers! The drawing is pretty accurate when it comes to placements of doors and windows. But my measurments I have to say are approximate. There might be an inch more or less here and there as the rooms are filled with stuff and hard to measure. The windows are 4'9" wide. From the widows to the floor is 29" and from window to ceilling is 8". In other words they are 7'2,5" high. In small room looking from the open wall window has approx. 5'9" of wall on the left and 4' of wall on the right. In the big room the windows align with the doors. Standing in the doorway looking into the big room the left frame of the window align with the left side of the door frame. Need more detail?? Cheers Jim
And the open wall in the small room is approx. 11' wide with approx 4'8" of wall on the right and 11" of wall on the left looking into the room. J
And there is 2' from the open wall to the ceilling J
Hi John! I have to turn in soon as it is quite late here in Norway. If you need more exact measures in order to come up with a design please let me know and I will have it by tomorrow. Thanks for the help so far! Cheers, Jim
so would this work? cheers john

Looks great :D ! That would work fine. Questions: 1. When I get the exact measurements ( the ones I've given you are as exact as I could get them with the rooms being used as a warehouse at the moment) can you fill them in so I get an exact drawing? 2. Should I build an angeled ceilling? 3. Any ideas for the recording room? Thanks for your time! :D Cheers Jim
Hi John! Here is a new sketchup of my studio with more exact measurments! Hope you have time to have a look at the recording room and give an advice on whether I should have an angeled ceilling or not? :D Cheers, Jim

Ok, I'm getting a bit better at using Sketchup so here's the newest version of my studiospace! Cheers, Jim
