hi planning a small studio in a residence. it will be a control room and a drum booth. i will be mostly mixing but there will definitely be some tracking done here, occasionally drums. there are high ceilings and it has a great location, BUT the floor is old long-leaf pine on a pier and beam foundation. whilst i plan on floating the floor and building double- walls according to the guidelines posted here and elsewhere i have a feeling that the floors will be the weak point. i'm reading everything i can but most of the studios seem to be built on a concrete slab. can someone please point me to any threads or articles that address the problem of building on a pier and beam foundation? thanks in advance
Main problems would be that you're building on top of a giant "drum head", and so it would need to be damped quite a lot - also, a structural analysis would need to be done to see if it can support enough weight to be worth building an effective floated floor on. This would require a capability of at least 100 PSF, which generally isn't seen outside of industrial buildings... Steve
