Very sorry for posting this.. I have had a good search around but cant seem to find this although I know its probably been asked a thousand times. Just wondered what the minimum distance between leaves should be for optimum effect? Would about 8 inches be ok? (thats with both leaves on independent frames, one of the frames using 4 x 2 timber and the other 3 x 2, then 1 inch in between frames).
Cheers

Distance between leaves...?

8 inches is good. 12 inches is better if you can afford it. My understanding is that more is always better, but that after 12 inches there is a more pronounced diminished return.
When Steve (knightfly) finally quits horsing around ;-) and builds his studio, he's going to have a walkable 36" space between his leaves! (That lucky bastard!)

WOW!
That's a pretty good idea for those who have the space! Easy to access wiring etc etc from inside the 2 frames. I would assume all the walls will still be sealed except for some type of access area where noise "leakage into that room won't be a concern!
Outer shell will be surface-bonded block, sand-filled except where required to be mortar-filled - inner rooms will each be floated on separate 4" concrete slabs - at the actual entrance, you'll be able to look between the inner and outer walls thru a slatted "gate" on either side of a sort of "drawbridge" - these gates will house 4 20" window box fans (air circulation between inner and outer walls) stacked one above the other, which will be on low setting at all times EXCEPT when the studio is in use (as will the dehumidifier, set to 40%) - the inner door will be open during non-use so the entire space inside the outer shell will be maintained at temp/humidity.
I have yet to research specifics on HVAC, except that all air velocities will be below 150 FPM and there will be NO heated or cooled air dumped between mix position and speakers, or even close. Inner between-room air gaps will be 12-16", and inner ceiling mass will be ABOVE the inner ceiling frames for strength (and for acoustic treatment between joists)
Still working on roof material - may end up pre-cast concrete in order to match the wall TL.
I'm designing this from the inside out, so don't as yet know the exact outer dimensions - live room will be approx. 14' x 22.4' x 32.6' and optimised for grand piano recording, but with lighting grid for small video shoots(which I'm hoping will pay for a new Schimmel piano - I like the action, tone and price better than Bosendorfer)... Steve
Better get crackin', Steve -- that awesome studio isn't going to build itself! :-P
I'll be happy to mind the store here while you're building it... What, two weeks or so? Maybe three!

You did see the "before I get to do that" list, right??!? :?
(Better allow at least 4 more weeks, huh? )
