I am in the priveleged position of looking for a property in London to buy and convert to a studio. I am delighted to find this forum as it seems full of advice on design and construction. But my question is a very basic one, and shows my inexperience, but I'd like some advice on what size room i need!
My property budget is potentially £500,000, and while I am not expecting people to know anything about the London property market, I'm sure you can appreciate that space is a premium in any city. So what would people suggest as minimum dimensions for a live room, vocal booth and a control room?
I am talking here of the dimensions for a room before soundproofing, which I understand typically reduces all dimensions by a foot or so. I would like the live room to be large enough to record a 4-5 piece band at once. Thanks in advance.

Giles - I'd look at around 100 - 120 sqm to comfortly fit a proper studio.

Nah, its a feel good thing. LOL
It is difficult to answer with such requirements, but as a response as detaield as the information given: Control room 100 m^3 with a 3.3 m ceiling height minimum. Live room 280 m^3. The control room dimensions are based on current control design recommendaions, and the live room based on the volume where individual low end modes are low enough that they are not a significant problem.
