Well, at least I though it was a champ until I checked out the one someone did that had monitors and racks and everything placed. This is just the floor/wall plan. Specifics: I havent liked those typical plans for 4 room small places beause the rooms are way too small. So I worked up something that I thought would make better use of the space (basically I want control room and live room as large as possible and F**K the other ones, if I can fit a cab in them to isolate it from drums, thats big enough) What I did was angle the wall behind the speakers into the main wall of room, essentially turning the "square" wall into the right hand wall that is angled away from the speakers. Then by attaching the 2nd wall to the right, I now have splayed walls, using one of the main room walls as a splayed one. Make sense? Then, by bringing the front control room up most of the way towards the front of the room, it made it as long as possible, and made the room directly in front of it very small, just enough for a guitar amp. I need some input on the wall angles though. My space is approx 21x22, with a wood floor on I-joists, over an attached garage. You come directly ouf of the house into the garage/studio. Currently there are no steps down to the garage (which has apprx 17 foot ceiling, which I did on purpose so that I could make a studio there. The studio will have 9 foot ceilings, same as the house) I am contemplating a spiral staircase coming into the top corner of the live room from the garage, that would be surrounded by only a hand rail, so as not to technically diminish the size of the room sound-wise. I think it would be a 4x4 opening, but I probably wont do it though. An entrance for musicans NOT through my house would be nice though. Umm, what else to tell? Oh, the walls directly next to the listening station and in front of it will be completely dead. I'm probably going to frame up a seperate steel stud wall in front of and to the sides of the listening station, with 2 foot centers, and fill it with rock wool sections floor to ceiling, and cover the whole thing with a nice fabric. That will leave me with 4 inch rock wool with about an 2 inchs from the actual walls. The entrance I show there will lead into a small soundlock/iso booth/groupie service area thats just there because it kind of needs to be to make the wall to the live room splayed out some. Going straight will lead into the live room, and a door to the right leads into the control room. The live room will have a floated wood riser to help keep drum vibrations out of the floor/control room/ neighbors house. The floor will be a tad springy because I'm spanning about 22 feet with I-joists with no under supports. I'm using Ijoists because of this so I dont hvae to put supports in my garage and ruin the parking space. So far, I'm not planning on double framing the walls because I dont want to burn up the space, but I will if you guys think I should. I do plan on using resilient channel on one side between the control room and llive room, and doubling the drywall on the other. Is that enough? I'd really like to put a 2x4 plate glass window in there so you could see from room to room, but its not neccessary by any means. I think thats everything. So, my questions are.. considering this design is very close to the final dimensions (grab the tape measure function and check out the different lengths) are the 2 main rooms an ok size? Any ideas, recommendations, etc? Also, in sketchup, is there a way to put text on stuff(as in "control room" stuff like that) and how can I check the angles on it to see if they are the same and even what they are? Keep in mind this drawing is just the floor plan and really only makes sense flat. Thanks for looking! Paul
Oops it didnt load. In the top right corner of the live room, thats a bass trap :) Editing in: Cant get it to load. What do I do? I'm using the skb file, right? Then what?

I think it worked, someone let me know!
yes - it worked.:) Ah - the 20' x 20' studio. do a search for 20' x 20' studio - I'm sure there are a few. cheers john
Actually I had the size wrong, its 21x22. LOTS bigger eh? So am I wasting my time? Does this one look like an ok design? I have several of the widest angles showing pretty good spans. Another option... I can use the 21x22 room on top and splay the walls for one big room, and use the garage underneith for studio also... making 2 21x22 rooms. But, the garage will be hard to heat, and water gets inthere occasionally from leaching under the ground. OR, just use the top room to track in and then move everything back and forth to mix. That would suck though. Are these 2 main rooms big rnough or not? I'll do the search too.
