I've got a quick question about the "covering" between the windows in a separate stud wall partition. Almost every drawing/description I've seen uses something like Celotex covered with batting, then covered with cloth to lay between the panes of glass. My question is does this serve any purpose besides looks?
Could I not just as easily glue down (carefully) black felt? I could glue it to each side (over the gap between walls) and not get any coupling between them. The reason I ask is I'm having trouble getting my Celotex to lay flat without wedging in tight between the stops that hold the glass in (which WILL couple sound from one side to the other.

Quick Window Question

No prob; window space needs to vent into the insulation packed between wall leaves for best isolation/damping (unless you wanna fill the space between the glasses with fiberglass too
As long as your between-wall insulation can't extrude into the window area, that's all that matters IMO... Steve
Thanks Steve! BTW, I got my CR front speaker walls built (including the "soffit" for the poorly placed ventilation openings). It turns out that I only needed the width of a 2x4 to move it out far enough so it doesn't look too bad. 1/2 of my slatted wall is up and glass is coming next week. :-) I have kind of left the back of the room alone until all the other stuff is done so I can do the tests you wanted to see w/ and w/o hangers.
Hopefully, pics this afternoon.

After seeing that "spider webs between the glass" story, I'm thinking that a plan to control insects should also be implemented in any window design... Perhaps Home Team Pest Defense's patented "Tubes In the Wall" system can serve to inspire ideas in this regard...
Or perhaps a design that allows for the removal of one window without major damage to the finishing work... :?
