Should I move my monitors/desk to the center of the room? Which way should they face? Will the basic treatments shown give me a halfway decent sounding room? Thanks.
How bad is my basement studio concept?

Aloha,
How about something like this (rough cut & paste only) for an idea?

I don't think I want a seperate vocal room. I'd like one big room because I use it as a "jam" room sometime with friends.
Don't place your desk on the side of the room.
Kendale's advise is a good approach and don't forget , each corner should be treated (you missed one or two there !).
Since the control room suggested by Kendale is a bit long (comparing ratio of length to width) besides the non-parale walls and would suggest to place of absorsers/diffusors along those walls
Will my room be OK with partially treated parallel walls? I don't want to put new walls up or do anything extremely permanent.
Aloha,
Sorry that wasn't what you were looking for. Perhaps if we had a little more specific info on what you are wanting to do, we would be able to suggest more helpful ideas.
If you would review http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231 and give us a more detailed understanding of what you are hoping to accomplish, then perhaps we can assist you better. Thanks!

I want to spend under $1500 and make the room sound as good as possible without a separate vocal room. I'm not trying to build a perfect studio, just one that sounds decent. I don't want to change the walls or anything, just have treatment in the right locations.
