Hi John and thanks for this site which is invaluable to a novice in studio design such as me. I'm just about to give up full time employment to dedicate my time to music, both playing and recording. My goal is to carry out some personal recording and eventually to record other performers. I'm at the stage of designing a studio which I intend to build in a robust corrugated iron shed which stands adjacent to my house. I'm in a very quiet location on the outskirts of Canberra, Australia. My nearest neighbour is about 1km away and I have very little noise pollution to concern me. Which brings me to my first point: because of the low noise risk, I am considering building a single frame lining inside the shed and concentrating my budget on good quality isolation between the different rooms of the studio. Does this sound sensible and are there any suggestions regarding materials to use in the lining to give the best acoustic response as opposed to noise protection?
The shed dimensions are 30' x 20' with a pitched roof 8' in height sloping down to 7'. The amenities area is already there but the entrance to the right is something I will construct. It stands on a concrete base. To achieve the best isolation between the various studio rooms, is a floating floor essential - you will notice that I haven't got that much height to play with.
I have attached a .png snapshot of my Sketchup design. Unfortunately I'm not expert enough in Sketchup to know if it's possible to reduce the 1.2Mb file that my design sits in.
As for budget, I've got about $50K Aus to dedicate to this project but this will include purchasing the first fit of recording equipment. I suppose what I'm after in this first instalment is some assurance that my design has no obvious flaws and that my considerations on noise proofing aren't way off the mark. Any advice will be most gratefully received.
NEW STUDIO IN SLENDID ISOLATION

Aloha and welcome to the forum, glenn
Congrats on your new endeavour! :D Say, any chance you could resize your pic, please? (600 pixels wide seems to work really well) This will save us from having to scroll back and forth in order to read the posts, (and is part of the forum guidelines.) Thanks!
Looking forward to your project and success!

Thanks Kendale and g'day to you mate. Resized picture attached - hope this does the biz.
Glenn- if you remove the large files like the drum kit from the model then goto Window/model info/statistics/purge unused, you should be able to reduce the file size so you can post it.
Initially it appears your control room is back to front.
cheers

Hi John and thanks for the Sketchup tip - I only downloaded it last week and am still getting used to it! I trust you will now have a clearer view of what I'm proposing.
Many thanks
Glenn
I'd try something like this.

John - many thanks for your design. I'd got myself fixed into using the existing entrances/exits but your idea is a far more logical use of space. Now to translate the drawing into reality!
Cheers
Glenn
