Hello there, First off, I just want to mention that this forum is an amazing resource for anyone interested in, or in the process of building a studio. It has proved to be an invaluable tool for me, as i have almost completed construction of my control room (my first) based mostly on information found on this site. It is truly incredible that I can simply read and search these discussions, and then build a studio. (I have been lurking here since last November, and never had to post anything!!) Thank you all for taking the time to share all of this priceless info. So here goes- I am in the process of building simple frames to support the cloth covering for the walls of my control room. The interior walls are exposed studs, each cavity filled with Roxul. Some cloth panels will require openings for electrical outlets, which are about 3" from the floor, attached to the studs. (inside the stud cavity) How do I finish the cloth in these areas around the outlet boxes? My thought was to frame an opening in the panel so the cloth may be cut and then stapled from the back. My collegue suggested just making an opening in the cloth to stretch around the outlet, and use the cover plate to keep it from moving. BTW, The cloth is to be sprayed with Flamex fire retardent. Any suggestions? Lemme know if i nned to give more info. Thanks so much!!
Did you really mean 3 inches, or 3 feet? Either way, unless your wiring is in conduit it's not legal to have unprotected wiring (cloth isn't considered a protection, but paneling or gypsum wallboard is) - you may need to add a sort of "fire blocking" between the studs ABOVE your outlets and panel the wall up to that, using some sort of molding over the blocking to tie down your cloth cover for the rest of the wall...
