Hi there, I have already posted this thread a while ago and because of floadings I had enormous work to be done before I could really focus on the studio part which I am taking over now: I have a house attached to a garage that has two rooms. I intend to build a home recording studio in it. To simplify a maximum, I have done a 3D model of it. http://idoia.org/ermendegi.skp The bigger room will be the control room. The little one is the one I will focus on first, I would like both to avoid having troubles with my neighbours (65 feet away) and to treat the sound to have as much as possible a neutral sound. Two of its walls are made of stones and concrete + 2cm of mortar300mm 11,8inches thick:

These two walls are burried in the ground up to the ceiling which is good for insulation purposes I guess. (STOP ME IF I AM WRONG). The two other walls are made of cinderblocks (200mm 7.8 inches tick) joint together with concrete. Behind one of them will be my control room, the other one has a little window and a door, that I intend to close for good and give access to outside (no contact with the house), these two walls and the ceilling are where I need to work to prevent the sound to come out:

The room dimension are height: the celing is quite low and not straight: 2,20m - 7 feet 3 inches at one end and 2.15m 66 feet 1inch at the other width and depht: 3.53m 7 feet It is a square, I know ! The width of the walls are 23cm 9inches for the walls of cinderblocks and 30cm 12 inches for the two others, the width of the celling is 28cm 11 inches. the ceilling is made of cast concrete (not sure about the term but it is only concrete with some stems of steel). It is 120mm 4,7inches thick.

I want to begin with the ceiling: I will opt for an hard floor and absorptive ceiling: I intend to come down 15cm and use a 2cm thick Plywood board + 10cm thick rockwool glued at the back then leaving 2-3cm of space between that and the hard ceilling. I will create wholes in the plywood board to make it absorptive ( 20% of it should be open). This ceilling is essentially to treat the sound inside the room. Say I would like to prevent the sound to go out via the ceilling, what could I do in addition to this idea ? Thanks in advance. Alex
