Hi all,
this is my first post. I lurked around a bit during the past weeks and found a lot of great infos. I downloaded Sketchup and started playin' around with it and finally understood a bit of it. I made a sketch of my space, and would like to get some input from you.
This space is in my house (the wall opposite to the bathroom is my kitchen wall). Windows and doors cannot be moved. The guy is standing at the entry door (the other door gets you to a terrace). Unfortunately the room is on upper level so no chance to cut the floor in order to reduce noise between rooms. Right now the space is full with stuff, but the images show the bare room as it will be before starting the project. As far as budget I really don't knwo what to say. I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible, around 5000USD (aprox 4000€) in construction only. I already have all the gear (an 24ch analog console, DAW, 2", some outboard). I plan to record an mix small rock bands, electric and acoustic (the usual stuff, drums, bass guitars, vocals). It will be a private studio, it's not goin' to be a commercial facility (been there, done that).
Hope I gave you all the infos needed.
Thanks in advance for all the inputs you might give me. Great site, congrats.
EDIT: the overall height is 2.7m, all walls are concrete.
Building a studio in Italy....hopefully...

Here's the sketchup file if anyone's interested...
Ok, this is the idea I came up with. Any input?
I know I told you that the bathroom couldn't be moved, but after talkin' with my architect I've been informed that there should be no problem with it.
The big room is the tracking room. The smaller one is the control room. I might put a couple small booth for amps in the corner of the tracking room.
Anyone care to comment? Thanks.
BTW, I'm having a bit of a problem drawing doors and windows hence the reason why you see none. 8)
Here' a couple of close ups.
Nice start!
I don't know enough yet to offer any advice, I'm sorry. But hopefully the more experienced members will chime in soon.
As far as doors, you can get some at the 3D Warehouse (part of google), or you can use some from the other posts with Sketchups on here!
Finally, can you post your sketchup design so far?
Good work,
Mark.
Hi Mark, here it is the Sketchup file. Is there an archive with all the Sketchup files that fly around here? Thanks.Nice start! I don't know enough yet to offer any advice, I'm sorry. I am unaware of an archive. I just read through the threads and download sketchup models when I think I can learn from them. Some are inspirational! :)
Mark.
Ciao
We're from Italy and both are planning to build a studio.....we must be out of our minds :D
anyway, don't panic if you didn't recieve any help yet, those guys are quite busy
But It may help to know what you need in the soundproofing field (who's around the studio, neighbours? )
You designed the angled walls....but are those traps or the actual walls of the inner room?
Congratz on your new studio plans!
