I'm getting stuck here with a couple of q's. 1) I'm doing a rebuild, which involves building a room in a room. Is there anything obvious I've missed out on this design...space is a major priority...right now I'm only focusing on the new tracking room - marked with brown colour. 2) Now, the new tracking room (the one shown wit brown flooring) will be floated but somewhere it has to be attached to the outer construction or what? It can't just stand there on it's own without tipping over?!?! Walls and ceiling will be drywall. Thansk in advance, Lasso.

yes it can - the whole stucture should be free standing unconnected to the outer frame. cheers john
Thanks John!!! Wow - it sounds amazing that it's possible...drywall rules :D
You realise the drywall has to be attached to a stud frame??
LOL Yeah - I'm planning on using a steel frame...much easier to build with. Double drywall layer on one side and insulation on the side facing the existing walls / ceiling. :D
I'd prefer Danish pine. I like wood. ;) cheers John
Hello, I just wanted to mention, after occupying our new rooms done with steel rather than wood framing. Anywhere there is no contact with or insufficient insulation, the steel resonates. Just beware it is an issue.
Ah yeah, good point. Hmmm...maybe I'll use wood instead...fiure it will be easier to build the ceiling that way...I just have a hard time convinsing myself that standard wood framing (3,8 X 7 cm) will hold the weight of two layers of drywall...it's safe???
I'd use 90mm x 45mm wooden framing. cheers john
