So I've treated my bedroom/"control room" with a few RealTraps but I feel like my room still isn't up to par. The floor has carpet on it and the walls have a thing layer of paint on them. Thank you very much for any suggestions.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Wrx07/room2.jpg. The numbers are RealTraps across the room and I have two more I have yet to put up.
1. Vertical in the wall/ceiling corner
2. Horizontal where the wall meets the ceiling
3. Vertical in the wall/ceiling corner
4. Vertical in the wall/ceiling corner
5. Horizontal across wall about level with the monitors

The symmetry of the room may be causing some grief. What are the shortcomings you dont like?
Is it for mixing you don't like it or tracking?
Something as simple as opening up your closet doors may be all you need to cut back on some early reflections from the left side.
Tom
you need to post the measurements of the room. wall lenght, ceiling high etc
Height-7'
Going counterclockwise from point 1:
point 1 to corner on its left-4'
from the corner to point 3- 13' 9''
from point 3 to corner at point 4-9'
from point 4 to edge of shutters-8' 9''
wooden shutters-6'
north wall-21'
The room is really stinking for mixing. No tracking done in here. Thanks, guys!
Aloha and welcome to the forum, Hope209 :D
It would really help if you could establish some symmetry for your mix position. Is it possible to rearrange your room/furnishings to accomplish this?

Yes, if it'll improve the sound of the room I'll move everything around if I have to :D
Aloha,
Hey, that's great! Alright, for starters, if we could take care of some formalities, perhaps? Any chance you could please:Yes, if it'll improve the sound of the room I'll move everything around if I have to.
You'll probably get more of a response by doing so and this will really come in handy two or three posts down the road. It's also part of the forum guidelines: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231 You may also want to review the SAE Website: http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html (be sure to click on the acoustics, absorbers, construction tabs at left, and tabs that appear at the top of the pages) and the Reference Area: http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2125 and: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1168 to get an idea of some of the principles we're going to be working with. Thanks! Aloha 8)Edit your profile to include your location. This is very important, because this is a worldwide resource, and as such, material costs and availability vary widely. For example, masonry is cheaper than gypsum in some parts of the globe, whereas it's the exact opposite in other regions.
Hope - could you please update your profile as per forum rules.
here's how I'd try setting up your room. The Brown boxes are the realtraps. The hatched ones are the extra 2 you mentioned in your plan.
cheers
John
Thank you very much for the help! I think a case of beer and a couple buddies helping me move stuff around and I'll be all set.
Ah, sorry forgot to ask-should I be looking for thin or heavy curtains to use in my room? Thanks
Well, I deviated from your proposed plan a bit, John, and I'm having some funky bass cancellations.
I'm getting some nasty low bass cancellation(120hz-sub lows) from my mix position. I'm using NS-10's and they are positioned 3'4'' away from my chair and 1.5' away from the RealTraps. I have a Sony subwoofer below my desk on a Gramma riser. When I put my head close to the wall( the bottom one on the schematic) I can hear the bass bumping pretty well. But when I stand on top of my bed with my head close to the ceiling I can REALLY hear that bass. Using my Rat Shack sound level meter there is a 10 db increase from the ceiling above my mix position compared to a reading from my chair
Here are a bunch of photos. Sorry about such poor quality
