first want to say i have really enjoyed this forum for a few months now. really great stuff! i'm moving into a duplex tomorrow that my future wife and i will share starting sept. i plan to turn this bedroom into a listening/programming/mixing room. i'm not too worried about neighbors, its at the farthest corner and i never listen very loud. my main concern is to treat the sound of the room with rockwool. ive done my reading and this is where i plan to start with the budget i have.

the main area not including the 3x3 entry to hallway or 3x7.5 closet is within inches of 11x11 with a 9 ft ceiling. carpet but i plan to put a 5x6 wood floor peice down for my chair to roll on. standard sheetrock. i plan to put a heavy curtain over the window. i also am putting four floating book shelves over the office desk, with a sort of "skyline" random assortment of books to hopfully diffuse. the corner traps will be 4" rockwool (pcf 6) 2' wide by 8' tall. should these go all the way to ceiling or can they stop a foot short? the wall panels will be 2" rockwool (pcf 3) 4' tall and vertically centered at ear level. hopefully these will be spaced two to four inches from wall where room provides... i think including fabric if i go to spi in austin for the rockwool i can do this for less than $200. let me know what i've left out. i cant get more dimensions till i move in. the ones i listed though are pretty acurate. ...... thanks for listening bwack
You may want to also consider a MOVABLE 4" MW absorber to place across the door alcove while mixing; should help bass trapping/mode smoothing quite a bit... Steve

or i could get a fancy hinge and make the absorber to the left of the bookshelves swing out to close the alcove at a 45 angle. would that do what your saying (if it was a 4" absorber). also, i've now moved in but i'm on a mac so i don't think i can use the program for drawing this out. so my cheesy gif might have to suffice... also, now that i'm in the room i'm noticing that with my studio desk and the 6" of absorption, in order to get in line with my speakers i'm ending up with an almost dead center mix position. is that bad? thanks guys...
ok, i have completed about 90% of what i assume i might ever do acoutically in this room i made a blog of the whole thing here http://www.davidcrowderband.com/band/bwack/?p=11 i have a few questions: i want to analyze the result and am curious about good software for mac platform or pc also, do i need to borrow a good flat analyzing microphone or would a good large condenser (shure ksm-44) or even like a 57 do the trick for basic analysis. i'd love some opinions on the project and these questions fwiw: what i might add in the future is the horizontal panel under the book shelves above the office desk and there is nothing above me on the ceiling, so i'm tempted to figure a solution there. as it stands the room is amazingly tighter, the lowend is lacking(?) but i am used to no acoustic treatment so i might just need to get used to what i'm supposed to be hearing... i cant wait to see an analysis, and then remove and play with the design until i'm in love with the sound. this site rocks - thanks bwack
