Gidday to all, crazy time to be making my first post :? . I've been studying, but still learning so much.
We are about to build our next house, and will be dedicating space to our first proper studio. My first sketchup effort is attached (WIP).
Things I'm trying to figure out at the moment: isolation - considering bedrooms and neighbour, air con, ceilings, and consider relocating spaces to other end of the garage without hallway.
Thankyou very much for the resources here, it is inspirational. I hope you find the project interesting, please feel free to point out any observations you may have. I can update as we go if interested?
cheers

Would you mind attaching the actual sketchup file as well?
Thanks,
Mark.
I'm having trouble reducing it to 500k for posting, I'll work on it tonight. If anyone has tips, please advise. Thanks and best regards.
I assume you tried "zipping" it? If that doesn't work, do you have access to any webhosting space? If so, then you could attach a link.
Good luck,
Mark.
Welcome Muz - (for others Muz is a slang version of Murray) - I know Christchurch as I spent 5 years at boarding school in Christchurch.
try zipping the file or try WinRAR.

Sweet, thanks guys!
I enjoyed reading about your New Zealand background John. I'll definately be using some number eight wire in the design somewhere
Cheers,
Muz
Maybe you could turn the control room around and use the passage as a vox booth like this.

Wow!!
Far out John, I'm blown away :D
I've got lots of thoughts, and I'm trying to organise them so not to waste time. For now, if I could ask - considering its a home studio, was there any compromises in the plan that you'd rather there wasn't?
Thanks so much,
Muz
Not really - I realise the hallway is a thoroughfare but it seemed a shame not to use it, I've just double doored it to the rest of the house and it also becomes an entrance to both the studio and the control room.
the control room will feel like it's all one connected room with the visuals you will have, room to room. The control room shape is a straight 5:1, the angles at the rear are for the rear speakers and it allows you to use the window to the outside yet not hurt the acoustic like the original design would have done.
Just a note to all you new sketchupers with your free Googlesketchup ;) notice how every wall, floor, doors, windows etc are all groups or components. By grouping each part you can easily copy, paste, rotate, move, resize etc the parts without affecting the other parts.
It's a good idea to setup your keyboard shortcuts with CNTRL/B for group CNTRL/SHIFT/B ungroup etc.

Hi Muz,
I,m in Christchurch (St Albans) as well and am 3/4 through finishing my small studio that John and others helped design.
Give me a call if you want to pop around and check out the design/build or talk about what I did right and wrong!!.
I know it would have really helped me out if I could have seen some of these things in person. I also have a few contacts for some of the materials used that are hard to find, or expensive down here.
I also have a builder mate that helped me out that understands the principles we are trying to acheive with these kind of constructions. He has done a few other studios and will do you a great deal and a good job.
Here's the mobile: 021625640
Thanks

Its been a fantastic year for studio design here. Thanks heaps for your advice and guidance, especially John and John. i think we've come up with the ideal setup for my family.
Happy New Year

Hi John/all,
We've just laid the floating concrete floor - looks perfect!
I've had to make some space re-arrangements to fit the family better - but are having trouble putting the design back together - please help :?
hopefully pics tell the story, otherwise please ask for info.
Thanks heaps,
Muz
The floating floor is supporting the main room. There is a medium sized window between the main room and the garage (Control area).
There is still an underground cable duct between the main room and the now 4th bedroom, but no window or glass door. i.e. its primarily a bedroom now.
I don't know how to do the inner wall and absorption detail for the main room, while leaving it as flexible a space as possible. "mini venue" type setting.
Thanks,
Muz
