I need some ideas for quiet air conditioning. I have a 900 sq ft, very reverberant, recording space. Today a team installed what was believed to be the quietest system they make with the compressor outside and coils inside. It cost plenty and and now it sounds like it's raining inside the building. We didn't ad a compressor to the furnace because it's too loud to run also. The lighting works well enough to heat the building by itself.
Any ideas????!!!!
Air Conditioning

Marc, explain to us exactly how and what they installed - some sketches of the air handler unit and ducting would be a big help - in fact - if they have it on cad - email it to me. Pictures would help as well. If it sounds like it's raining - my first guess would be buffetting taking place at the corners of the turns - suggesting square edge corners instead of rounded - and (or) no turning vanes in the corners. This would also suggest that the ducting is undersized and your velocity is greater than it should be for a studio. The other info I want is - what exactly is the velocity of the air at the outlets - what are the supply registers themselves (manufacturer and model numbers) and what is the static pressure on the system. Has the system been balanced (if yes - get a copy of the balancing report for us to review.) Get us all of that info and we should be able to come up with some answers. Man I wish I had enough airflow coming from my ducts to have it sound like rain. It's more like a slow trickle, and if I put my hand up by the register I can feel it. And that's metal duct direct from the trunk, only going 20 feet. The HVAC system in my house is horrible.
Sonic - that only means you need a larger duct - for studios you want very low velocity (which you have) and you have to make up fo rthat with larger volume. Are we sure it's not a mini split system?
Anyway, yes, more details are needed... Make and model and photographs would help too, yes?

With reguards to my HVAC Rod, I'm pretty sure my blower is under-sized for my house. It may have been just great for the upstairs portion, but I've pretty much doubled the square footage of my house with my studio. I mean, I ran 6 inch round duct to my control room... if that's not big enough I don't know what is.
