Hi there, First, don't mind my crappy English, i'm Dutch ;) We are building a 1 room studio at my place in a detached garage. The available room size is 5,15m by 5,15m and the height is about 2,2m. In the middel of 1 wall there is a window thats 98cm. I was thinking of something like this. I've got KRK rp-8's that I don't want to be placed in the wall, but on monitorstands. Can someone help me make a plan, maybe with sizes mentioned, cause i'm not that good with drawing on the computer  Keep up the good work around here

I was just looking on the SAE site. This control room is also a good option for me.

Ok.. I think the second design will be the best solution for me. The monitors and equipment are on the same places as I was thinking of. Where the sliding door is in this design, there's a window. The door can still be placed anywhere. Is it recommended not to make my studio a square? And what are the angles of the walls in the design? Waiting for your help, Greetz Bart.
Because this is the first time I'm building a studio I don't want to make mistakes. After some more searching here on the forum I found some answers to my questions but not all of them. The max room size is 5,15m by 5,15m. I want to use as much room as possible, but what is better to get the best results for acoustics? Another thing I would like to know is, the angle of the rear wall. If someone can help me with these question I would be very pleased. I'm a bit in a hurry cause next saterday we are building again.. GrtZ Bart..

Advice, At least make a simple drawing of the existing space. Yes you've given the dimensions and partial info on one window. What about existing doors and other obstacles in the room, this is a garage right? There could be a bunch of things in there to work around. The free SketchUp (top thread in this forum) is something that will help you: Draw a simple sketch of existing space. Figure out angles from other pics you’ve downloaded (import them into SketchUp) AND/OR at least provide some real pics of existing space. Slow down a bit, with out a plan for both design & construction you may be headed for trouble. It seems that when posters put in a reasonable amount of effort with questions, suggestions are usually made IMO. And that’s a good thing. Marc
Ok then.. I tried to make the garage in sketch up. The small room in the design will be my girlfriends room for nailart. There needs to be some space for storage such as 2 bicycles, tools etc. If it's possible a small vocal booth would be an option but it's not necessary.. All ideas are welcome :D GrtZ Bart

Bart - as you want an area for tools and bikes etc, plus you probably want your partner to be able to access her room without disturbing you I suggest you bite the bullet and put in a dividing wall. here's how I would approach it. The control room is still a good size room and should sound fine. cheers john

Thanks john.. I'm gonna be working of this design! I got some more questions.. Do I need to place acoustic hangers behind the slot resonator walls or in other places? The slot resonator walls are made of timber, as i can see. Should I make the rest of the walls with cloth? GrtZ, Bart..
Hey there.. Before I even could get a chance to build the design john made for me I bought a new house. I finally got the key this week! The studio will be in the attic this time, hope this works with the angled roof. I really would like to have a vocal/guitarbooth somewhere at the right of the control room or in the controlroom that I've made in the sketchup file. The wall and the door can be moved, but not too much because there will be a laundry room as well. It's just a very simple sketchup but all of the measurements are in there! Hope you guys can help me again with a new studio design..

the sloped ceilings will add some challenges but it depends on things like whether or not you need soffit mounting etc... but one idea begins to look like this in the front of the CR space. in this case, take advantage of the space behind the front wall to add some trapping.

That's a nice start there Gullfo, thanks! Yesterday I removed the dividing wall and ceiling on the attic. Tomorrow I will take some pictures and post them over here so you can get a good idea of the attic. I will also put up a new sketch up design that's more detailed then the last one and where you can find the max room capacity. I'm not sure if I want soffit mounting or not. I want to keep the control room as big as possible. If soffit mounting gives me more space then that's what I want  Grtz Bart
Here is the new skp design i've made.. I've made a little layout of what I think would work for me. The laundry room in the design should stay as big as it is now. There will be a falls ceiling like in the other design at approx 2.45m so that I will still have some storage room above the studio.

Nobody any ideas?
hi, So really your usable area, with regards to ceiling height, is about 1 m shorter. At the back. Great place for bass traps. Are you going to inclose the vocal booth? should you stick with a one room design due to the small space?

if you did need a vocal booth, you could wall off the entire top area and make the entire space your booth. this way you have enough head height and you can also put hangers and treatment up overhead.

Hi there, Gullfo that's about the idea I had in mind. I'm not sure how to construct the trapping behind the front wall. Should I place acoustic hangers in that area for trapping? Correct me if i'm wrong, by placing the trapping in that area I don't have to place basstraps in the corners of the front wall. And should I do the same thing behind the rear wall? Is it ok if I build the entire CR out of inside/out walls and use timber as finish on the angled walls and cloth for the rest of the room? Thanks again ;)
given the tight space, yea, inside out walls will probably be your best move. putting as much trapping under the eaves will assist in keeping the amount of treatment within the main area down but I think that the side wall on the CR should still be used. I 'm not sure hangers will be easy to put into that eave space so one option is to put in rolls of insulation - just put them in sideways.
