Budget for construction and acoustic design and treatment: ZAR 30,000 to 40,000 MAXIMUM (not sure what the current exchange rate is)
Objective for the studio is a project studio combined with a recording facility doing voice overs, multi-track recordings, syncing multimedia/video, jingles, composition work, radio ads etc. Mastering will be done externally. Studio to grow as a media company servicing private, corporate clients in the entertainment technology industry. Our main focus will be the media market as our experience are in this field and growing into a full studio.
Construction have not been started, but funding underway, overall design criteria and costing will depending on getting funding..
Have received quotes from construction companies doing interior design, but decided to do most of the work ourselves as it will be to costly
Please see drawings, not perfect scale, and filenames of drawings describing existing structure and layout.
My questions are:
1. Treating the concrete floor without floating the floor.
2. Drywalling versus brick walls, using gypsum as example
3. Construction and acoustic treatment of the ceiling, our biggest problem at the moment. Do we treat 2 double suspended ceilings? What are the alternatives.
4. Sliding doors vs. firedoors. See topview for one sliding door
5. Layout of the topview. This is the first idea I have.. Control room seeing vocal and main studio booths.
This is about it, all I can think of at this stage. Comments, suggestions will be most welcome.
I am a producer not an construction engineer and if there are any questions from your side please, I appreciate it very much.
Thank you guys for a great site, looking forward to your response.

How about breaking up the parallels like this.
What are those power plugs hanging from the ceiling - was there machinery in there - can't you just disconnect them and remove them?
cheers
john
hi there john, thanks very much. the power issue we can sort out, disconnecting and removing and rewiring. i got some good ideas now for flooring and also wiring throughout.
so now its onto the construction, deciding what to use. my biggest problem at this stage is still the roof, but suspending the ceilings should do the trick. any ideas from the previous pictures provided for suspended ceilings?
i downloaded the sketchup program, man this is a great tool for quick visualising ;)
heres the studio in 3d so far.
