Im revisiting my Phillip Newell book for acoustics ideas. He often makes limp membrane absorbers with 'deadsheet' covered with 'cotton waste felt'? Ive done internet searches for these items with no results.
Can someone 'translate' what he's talking about? Like what specific products are deadsheet, and cotton waste felt?
Im looking to construct some limp membrane absorbers for low freqs, but there isnt much about them that I can find on the forums.
could be a case of different words for one idea?
thanks for any help

Deadsheet? Cotton waste Felt? Newell?

Newell is English, living in Spain; good luck with translation. Near as I can tell, "deadsheet" is limp mass vinyl. "cotton waste felt" sounds like some of the stuff shoe inserts are made of; kind of thick pool table felt??!? Another possibility might be "roofing felt", known here in the US as "tar paper", but that's kind of stiff for the purpose I'd think... Steve
The "cotton waste felt" might be a insulation product that uses "junk" cotton (like chewed up old blue jeans). What makes it nice is that it doesn't cause skin irritation. Of course, I could be wrong about this.
Do we have a sticky (or could we create one) that is an acoustic thesaurus? It might help in situations like this. It could even be used two ways - one to show names different for the same product in different parts of the world, and another to show equivalent products (for example, mineral wool at the same density as fiberglass could be interchanged).
Just a thought.
