Hello
This is my first post over here and first I want to congratulate everyone for this wonderful forum.
I plan to build a recording studio in Bucharest Romania. While the audio-video and movie market is growing strong over here, I find that a wise thing to do, especially since there are no major studios around.
I decided that I should have the studio designed by a pro but I really cannot find one in Bucharest so I am looking for someone abroad.
Now, how important is to find one closer to Romania? I mean, how important is the distance between me and him?
Could this be done from a huge distance easily, and how much do I need to communicate with the designing team, during construction?
How many times should them (normally) come to the construction site?
Could most or all the things involved (constructing what was actually designed) be resolved trough the internet?
What problems could rise from a distance matter?
And since I have no other access to any information except the internet, how do I decide who should I work with or not work with? (Other than reading the "clients list"?
I could also hire a local architect, in order to make things work easier between the designing team and the construction team, and who could make sure everything goes right... Could this be any use?
This is the first time I will be involved in such a difficult task, as constructing a rec-studio, so I have no experience.
Any advice will be highly appreciated. (Except ABORT :)!)

Is distance a problem?

Aloha and welcome to the forum, Oliver :D
Why not give John a call or PM and see what he thinks? He has designed several studios in Australia, UK, and US.

Thanks for the welcome!
I will pm John, but I also wanted to get some opinions from those who experienced that "relationship"already.
So if any has a few minutes to spare, please share your wisdom with me!
Thanks

aloha Kendale ;) it is a good question Oliver.
From my experience I've observed my studios built overseas via the net and ones built locally, like one I'm currently working on.
It doesn't seem to matter IMO - Funky has just built Torus II in Skopje, Macedonia via the net and phone calls, I love his accent when he calls at night, Heeeelloooo Jaan :):) (I'll post pics, I'm just waiting for the finals.) but here is where Torus II started.

we built his first studio a few years ago, some may remember him. I can assure you he's outdone his last colour scheme this time - we've become too staid in our world. ;)

I'd suggest a basic knowledge of what goes on in this site, especially Steve's construction forum, will help you understand the principles but if you follow the plans and email any questions, as you would the designer down the road, there shouldn't be any problem with distance.
cheers

Hi John
I spent a little time searching and reading trough the forum, these days and I'm getting more and more optimistic.
It seems that all could be done if I hire an local architect to supervise the construction site.
In my previous posts, I forgot to mention that my studio goes 200sqm so there will be lots of e-mails and calls to the design team. They also have to come here and ceck things out at list 2 times.
..I'm still searching the forum..
Oliver :)
Good idea!
