Hello I'm redoing my studio and I have a question about the materials used on the walls. I only have a single wall because of space limitations. The live room wall has rc the controlroom side does not. I was going to use 5/8" drywall and 1/2" celotex on the rc wall and then 1/2" drywall and 1/2" drywall on the control room side. My question is- Will I gain more by using 2 layers of drywall instead of the celotex/drywall combo? Thanks

Yes, you will gain more isolation. Andre
AVare Thanks for the response What would be the recomended sheet thichness order? From what I've read here it's better to go with 1/2" and 5/8"than both 5/8" is this correct? Should I go LiveRoom- 5/8",1/2" rc and then on the control room side- 1/2",5/8" no rc Thank You
The order is not significant.

I can't give a short answer, so here is longer one. :) Having both sheets in a leaf (total layer) the same means that the coincidence dip (reduction in isolation) is greater becauase both shets have the same frequency. This follows common sense. HOWEVER, for nusic isoaltion, the frequency of the coincidence dip is so high that with a wall that gives good low frequency isolatio, the high frequency isolation is not an issue. Two sheets of 5/8" give more mass, hence better isolation for music. Good luck! Andre
