Hello First off I want to say what a great site this is. I built my studio 18 years ago before all this information and the internet was available. A couple days ago what started as building a machine room has turned into a revamp of the whole studio. And that's why I'm here. I've been spending several hours a day researching this site and it all can be very over whelming. Existing Studio I've attached the layout for my existing studio. It's a 24x24 garage with a concrete floor . I took the center wall out and I'm left with a square with outer walls that are 5/8 drywall-1/2 sound deadining board mounted to resilient Channel. The ceiling is 5/8 drywall only. Drywall to drywall is 23' with 9' ceilings. With the existing studio stl to the outside isn't too bad but when a drummer comes in you can hear a muffled boom of the kick drum. I'm thinking about building a room inside of a room for the live room to get this even lower.

New Studio ( liveroom ) My intent for the renovation is to open up some more room in the control room as I use this for producing/mixing more than full fledged bands. But I want to be able to facilitate recording drums when needed. Also I want to break up the parallel walls that I dumbly put in years ago. I'm married to where the furnace is and i would like to keep the existing iso booth if possible. I'm thinking about putting a shell inside of the new layout in the live room only. I'm hoping to attuenuate some of the lows from the outside. My concerns also are are space, I want to make sure that the new room size would be workable from an acoustical standpoint. I know it's not ideal All I could afford for air space is 1 to 2 inches bettween the new liveroom wall and the existing outer walls and I want to make sure that I'm not doing this in vain. The new ceiling would go like this. 2-5/8 drywalls- insulation- 2 inch airspace and then the original layer of 5/8 drywall attached to the joists. The final ceiling height I would end up with is 8'4". I don't have a floating floor and don't have the budget for it.
