If you have 2 layers of drywall with GG in between on resilient channel, how can you hang your bass traps from the ceiling without hurting isolation? Is this something I need to consider now before the ceiling is hung??
Haha, I was just asking a similar question in another forum. I'm pretty sure if you use a good drywall anchor and caulk around the screw that should be fine.
I'd NOT use drywall anchors (at least not the plastic ones) for hanging ANYTHING overhead, period. One way is to map out beforehand where your cloud will go, and if necessary add an extra RC or two where you can get to them with screws; then screw whatever hooks you intend to use to the ceiling, going thru the layers of drywall and into the RC. Depending on the total weight of your cloud, it shouldn't take much extra to support it. It may help to NOT sink the screws you use for this right at first; instead, leave about 1/4" gap, put a daub of caulk around the screw where it enters the drywall, and THEN finish driving the screw. If you have good insulation in the ceiling and don't miss the RC with your screws, I don't think you'll notice a difference in isolation from this... Steve
I'm not talking about the blue straight anchors, I'm talking about ones that are rated for 90 pounds each. If you put enough of those you'd probably be ok. For me it doesn't matter, I made my ceiling totally different, I could hang an elephant from mine. :)
